From Care Professional to Supervisor: Nikki’s Career Journey at Home Instead East Hampshire

Nikki’s story is a shining example of how a career in care can evolve over time, with dedication, passion, and the right support.

Starting Out, A Passion for Care

Nikki began her care journey back in 1998. Over the years, she dipped in and out of the care industry, gaining valuable experience and learning more about the vital role carers play in supporting people to live independently. Her passion for helping others never wavered, even as life took her through different paths.

In 2015, Nikki joined a Home Instead office outside East Hampshire, where she rediscovered the joy of working closely with clients and making a difference every day. It was a perfect fit, combining her experience with the supportive culture Home Instead is known for.

By 2018, Nikki moved to Home Instead East Hampshire, where she quickly became an integral part of the team.

A Day in the Life of a Care Visit

A typical visit from Nikki lasts at least an hour, during which she provides personalised support tailored to each client’s needs. This might include:

  • Supporting with personal care: Helping clients get dressed, supporting mobility, or assisting with medication reminders.

  • Household tasks: Tidying up, light cleaning, or helping with laundry to keep the home comfortable and safe.

  • Cooking and meal preparation: Preparing nutritious meals or snacks based on dietary requirements.

  • Running errands: Collecting prescriptions, going to the shops, or accompanying clients to social events or medical appointments.

  • Social interaction: Offering companionship through conversation, playing games, or encouraging clients to take part in hobbies.

  • Encouraging activity: Supporting gentle exercises to maintain mobility and wellbeing.

Each visit is unique, designed to help clients maintain their independence while feeling cared for and supported.
