Kate Smith - Registered Care Manager
Hi, my name is Kate and I am one of the Registered Managers here at Home Instead – Cleveland.
I joined the team in March 2016 as a CAREGiver but since then my career has skyrocketed and I am proud to say I am now responsible for many aspects of the management of the company.
Home Instead had excellent employee reviews as well as amazing client feedback which caught my attention when I joined the company during its first year of opening. Due to me working as a CAREGiver initially, this made me realise my passion for delivering an excellent standard of care and I use this experience now in my role within the office.
As part of my role as the Registered Care Manager, I visit all new clients to discover their needs, wants and wishes. I help to alleviate any worries or concerns and then make sure we deliver. My passion is to ensure that the service we offer is safe, effective and truly embodies what it means to be independent at home. I am keen to ensure all our clients are treated with the utmost dignity including taking positive risks and steps to enrich our older generation's lives. I promote the type of care and support the way I would like it. I often look at what is important to me and how I would like and more importantly would not like to age. I use my passion towards this person-centered style of care to ensure all our employees pass the “mum” test and treat each individual client the way they would like to be treated. I take great pleasure in building long term relationships with our clients and their families.
Outside of work I am an avid gardener! You will often find me bringing plants into the office that I have grown at home for my colleagues. We regularly have competitions to see which person's survives the longest or grows the tallest!
Brenda Plowman - Field Supervisor
Hi, my name is Brenda and I am a Field Supervisor here at Home Instead – Cleveland.
I joined the team in August 2019. I have a wide experience of working in Customer Services Management after a long career of 19 years within the Financial Industry.
I believe the position at Home Instead came my way at the right time in my life. With a wealth of experience from working with Customers and People Management, I knew that my skills would be beneficial in contributing to the Home Instead way and working for a company that is not only CQC Outstanding rating, but has a 5 star Best Employee Awards, showing me that they not only give a great service to their clients, but also deliver a great service as an employee.
My role within Home Instead involves ensuring the wellbeing of the clients and ensure we give them a great service that is personal centered to them. Our aim is to support the family to remain in their own home for as long as possible. The physical side as well as the mental wellbeing of our clients is important to us here at Home Instead and I ensure that we carry out on the promise we have made to our client and their families through regular service reviews. I am the person that will be their support in the office throughout their journey with us. I build relationships through regular contact, especially for those families that live a distance away from their loved ones. I also look after a lovely bunch of CAREGivers, through regular support checks, supervisions and appraisals, I have gained a lovely incite to the lovely people that support our elderly clients and the brilliant work they daily. How they go over and above every day, because that is who they are. Real genuine, caring people with big hearts. It is such a pleasure to work in an industry that is all about care, about enriching people’s lives, by making a difference.
Outside of work, I’m normally running down the road, no I am not being chased, I actually enjoy keeping fit. I enjoy going to the gym and playing netball in a local league. I love the outdoors so if I’m not out walking with my dog through the fields, we are sat in a tent in the middle of a field. She is my little companion and such an enjoyment in my life. You can normally find me in the office eating, if I’m not eating, I’m looking for food to eat, much to the disappointment to those on diets.
Shelly Howells - Field Supervisor
Hi! My name is Shelly and I am one of the Field Supervisors here at Home Instead – Cleveland.
I joined the team in September 2019 and literally hit the ground running! I have a varied employment history, mainly within Customer Service and Account Management roles.
When the vacancy became available here at Home Instead, I did have a little research into the company. Knowing that it all started with real people who had a genuine passion to deliver fantastic care and change the lives of those living in the Cleveland area really struck a chord with me. It felt more like joining a family than it did joining a brand new office team.
In my role as Field Supervisor I am responsible for Client and CAREGiver supervision. I support and ensure that we continually strive to provide the very best care for our clients and our wonderful CAREGivers. I love being out in the “field” visiting our lovely clients to carry out service reviews making sure we are delivering "outstanding" care as promised in the initial meeting. I have regular contact with clients, their families and all of our CAREGivers to make sure everything outside the office is running as smooth as possible.
When I’m not working I love going to the cinema or the theatre. I like attending concerts and watching comedians live on stage too. I have a passion for visiting places I’ve never been to after spending 5 years abroad and travelling the world (many moons ago)! I’m also a mum to 3 boys and a cat so sometimes I simply like to wind down and spend time with my family!
Julie Bradford - Training & Compliance Officer
Hello, my name is Julie and I am the Training and Compliance Officer here at Home Instead - Cleveland.
Prior to joining Home Instead I was a Registered Care Manager in a residential care home and I am proud to say we achieved a Grade One (highest quality) status. With a career of over 30+ years in Elderly Health and Social Care and through being an N.V.Q assessor, I know what great care looks like.
I am delighted to be part of an exceptionally positive and able office team who all share my own intrinsic values and passion for delivering a high quality, trusted and reliable service that you would only expect for your own family. With Home Instead, I know you can’t get better care and I’m so pleased to be able to share my knowledge, qualifications and experiences and influence a really happy, team of dedicated CAREGiver's delivering what people want.
My role within the company is to train and develop all our new CAREGivers when they start with Home Instead and professionally develop experienced CAREGivers. I ensure that right from the start, our specially selected, excellent employees comply with and surpass all CQC standards but above all, your own and your loved ones expectations. Our standard of care is exceptional and award winning, and that responsibility starts with me! I have specialist skills in Dementia, End of life, Medication and I am involved in helping individuals, families and CAREGivers with bespoke support and advice to ensure all can live well at home independently. I am so pleased to be able to do the job I love whilst being able to help so many people. I take great delight in knowing that many more elderly people are able to have the quality support they rightly deserve because I train great people to become quality, passionate Caregivers.
I have lived my whole life in Teesside although I have spent some time working as an English Teacher in Egypt which was fabulous and fascinating as well as completely enlightening. I am married to Jeff and have 2 children as well as 5 lovely grandchildren too. Outside of work you can find me travelling to countries far and wide. I also enjoy more homely activities such as cooking and spending quality time with my growing family too whilst also helping to support my elderly father.
Sophie Proud - Business Development Executive
Hi, my name is Sophie and I am the Business Development Executive here at Home Instead – Cleveland.
I joined the team in September 2020. My background and study revolves mainly around various marketing roles, the most recent of which was for a chain of children’s nurseries looking after countless families spread across Teesside and North Yorkshire.
I have always placed huge attention to my marketing approach which is focused on the needs and wellbeing of others rather than the financial benefit to an organisation as a whole. With this in mind I was thrilled to be offered a role here at Home Instead where I knew I could put my skills to good use, mainly in highlighting the huge benefit that our services could bring to the elderly population in Cleveland and their families, especially those who were unsure where to turn next to best support their loved ones.
My role within Home Instead Cleveland involves publicising the unique person-centered approach to care that our organisation is so proud to provide. This also includes the recruitment of our amazing Caregivers who are the backbone of all operations and further reaching out to support the families’ that have come to depend on Home Instead for the care of their loved ones. It is apparent to me that there are still a huge number of people who are unaware of the options available when it comes to care and assume that their Mother, Father or loved ones will eventually require the assistance of a residential care home, losing their independence in the process. I am making it my mission to change this opinion and spread the ethos and vision of Home Instead Senior Care far and wide, ensuring our support is made available and easily accessible to those who need it the most. The job satisfaction that comes alongside this is truly immeasurable and makes coming to work everyday an absolute pleasure.
Outside of work I spend a lot of my time entertaining my two rescue dogs Sasha & Franco. We love nothing more than exploring and take regular long weekend breaks in the English countryside. I am also blessed to have a huge family, both on mine and my partners side, so there’s always a gathering or an occasion to look forward to!
Andrea Walker - Recruitment & Co-Ordination Manager
Hi, my name is Andrea and I am the Recruitment & Co-Ordination Manager here at Home Instead Cleveland.
I joined the team in February 2019 in the role of a Care Co-Ordinator following a successful career in retail management spanning 27 years.
An opportunity arose for me to review my career journey and to find my next path. With many transferable skills I always knew the next direction of my career was to support the elderly. I really couldn’t think of anything else that would bring so much warmth and make so much difference not just to my life but to so many special people who really do deserve the best.When I found Home Instead Senior Care it really could not have been any other care company for me, as the client reviews, Outstanding Care Quality Commission report, 5 star employee awards really did paint a very compelling picture as to what my future could be.
My role within Home Instead includes ensuring we have ongoing opportunities with a consistent pool of caring, compassionate CAREGivers to enable us to support our clients, current and new, with a genuine want to give back. Many have had very successful careers themselves, brought up their family and feel now it is their time to make a difference, with so many life skills and experience to offer. Linking in very nicely with the recruitment responsibilities I am also accountable to ensure all visits are planned, with the right CAREGiver’s at the exact time that our clients would like the support. Every day for me is varied but what makes me smile every single day? When I answer the phone and hear “Hello pet, its Joan here, how are you my love?” Joan is just one of our amazing clients who I look forward to hearing on the other end of the phone, because to me it’s personal.
Outside of work there is nothing I love more than spending time with my husband, our family puppy and taking my own parents to our favourite little cottage in Northumberland where they used to take me and my sister when we were little.
Lauren Sheperia - Business Administrator
Hi! My name is Lauren and I’m the Office Administrator here at Home Instead – Cleveland.
I joined the team in November 2020. I’ve worked in a few different areas before joining the Home Instead family, such as Retail Management, Training, Finance, and Customer Services. Before this though, my background was in the Arts - I also have an array of Creative skills and a degree in Fashion.
I decided to apply for a job at Home Instead because I wanted to feel like I was making a difference to people and having a real impact on their lives, which I think perfectly describes what Home Instead do. Since working here I have been in charge of organising PPE for client visits, assisting our CAREGivers with getting in touch, processing documents from our new recruits, and taking care of any other general office duties. I’m a very organised person – I never leave the house without my list book and my label maker! With my passion for getting things in order, my creative eye, and my range of skills from my previous jobs, I’m the ideal person for the job when it comes to making the office run smoothly!
Outside of work, I love making things! You’ll often find me in the kitchen baking, at a pottery class, or sewing. I also have a snake called Sebastian who loves being chatted to, and a gorgeous little dog called Dave who keeps me very busy!
