Today 26 November 2012, is the pilot launch of the Silver Line Helpline in Manchester, which is being operated locally with the very kind help of support and volunteers from the local WRVS
The Silver Line Helpline, and on-line services, (1-2-1 chat, emails and message board) will provide three functions to support older people:
- a sign-posting service to link them into the many, varied services that exist around the country;
- a befriending service to combat loneliness;
- and a means of empowering those who may be suffering abuse and neglect, if appropriate to transfer them to specialist services to protect them from harm.
If you need information, advice or friendship and you live in Manchester or the Isle of Man you should ring 0800 328 8888. This number is available 24 hrs and is open every day, including Bank Holidays until the end of February. With Christmas coming up, The Silver Line Helpline recognise that this might be a particularly difficult time for some people and feel it’s important to be there.
Gail Godson, Director at Home Instead West Lancashire and Chorley goes on to say "We would like to send Esther, Sophie, The WRVS and the entire team at The Silverline Helpline our very best wishes for a sucessful pilot in the North West and Isle of Man and like everyone we hope that this will eventually provide a national platform next year for older people so that their needs will become a national priority".
