Officially open! The Brookside extra care housing development in Ormskirk held its opening ceremony inviting Vince Earl the former Brookside soap star (Ron Dixon) to prominently feature in the afternoon’s events, including the welcome and the plaque unveiling ceremony with residents.

The excellent Brookside facility has one hundred and eleven - one and two bedroom apartments, community facilities, a health & wellbeing centre and a residents centre for people with dementia.  It is being delivered through a partnership, bringing together the expertise of: Lancashire County Council, West Lancashire Borough Council, NHS Central Lancashire, U3A, Your Home Group, Age Uk, and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Amongst the serious messages and light heated moments in the afternoon’s proceedings entertainment came from St Anne's schoolchildren who started the afternoon of on a high note!  The Skylarks Community Choir then followed with a superb repertoire, delighting the assembled dignitaries and residents alike, giving a truly inspirational example of what dedication, hard work and sheer enthusiasm can achieve. Mid-way through their performance they were joined by the excellent Singing for the Brain Choir, who are supported by the local Alzheimer’s Society.

Gail Godson, Director of Home Instead West Lancashire & Chorley, a volunteer on the Skylarks steering committee goes on to say “I am so very proud of everyone today in both the Skylarks and Singing for the Brain Choirs. It honestly was so much fun, very interactive and immensely therapeutic. Skylarks are singing and music making for ALL, even people who think they can't sing! Everyone in the local community is welcome to join us and who needs Gareth Malone when you have someone equally as inspirational as Jane Swarbrick our conductor who has worked tirelessly since our formation.”

This exciting community project is supported by the local PCT and Lancashire County Council and is held on Tuesday evenings 7pm - 8.30 pm at Brookside Living, Aughton St, Ormskirk, L39 3BH
