Reflecting on May: Raising Awareness

We had a great May, being part of various events across the community. Such as helping raise awareness for Dementia Action Week and celebrating our wonderful team.

At Home Instead West Lancashire and Chorley, as well as trying to deliver the highest quality of care possible, we also strive to engage and interact with our surrounding communities. In May, this was no different!

We are so proud to have been able to host and be a part of various activities and events during the whole month. Showing our support to various services and annual initiatives.

This included Dementia Action Week 2024. Which took place from Monday 13th to Sunday 19th May, bringing the UK together to act on improving Dementia diagnosis rates.

It was not just that one week either. The whole month we had events across Ormskirk, Chorley, Skelmersdale, and Rainford. This included our monthly Community Social Groups which take place in Aughton and Rainford, respectively.

Furthermore, May also saw the launch of our Star of the Week. Where each week we celebrate the accomplishments of our wonderful Care Professionals and Key Players. Kindly thanking them for their dedication and support in making Home Instead West Lancashire and Chorley an outstanding provider of care services.

Please see below the various photos of all the things we got up to. We love being able to share these as it always puts a smile on our face as being a positive presence in the community ensures that people know Home Instead is always here to help.

Dementia Action Week (13th to 19th May 2024)

As part of Dementia Action Week, we not only hosted our own event at Toby Carvery (Ormskirk), but we also took part in other events that were all aimed to raise awareness around Dementia, the impact is has on the individuals that live with it on a daily basis, and most importantly the various support services that are available in the local area.

As well as our own Dementia Awareness Event, we also worked with Chorley Council as part of their annual Dementia Open Hub along with the members of the Chorley Dementia Action Group.

All the events around this were fantastic opportunities for members of the public to come along and discover these support services. They created positive atmospheres where everyone, including other community specialists, could join forces and their expertise in just sitting, relaxing and openly talking about Dementia.

Community Social Groups (8th & 16th May)

Every month we run two Community Social Groups in Aughton (Christ Church Ministry Centre) and Rainford (Rainford Village Hall).

The first CSG of the month saw us at Aughton where we were joined by Twinkle House, which is a fully inclusive and wellness centre based in Skelmersdale. It was so wonderful to hear about the fantastic facility and the incredible programmes they have there. Including specialised rooms that welcome families, children, young people, and adults.

The week after, our second Community Social Group took place in Rainford. Planned for that day was a Musical Movement session ran by the great team at Rainford Parish Council. Leading the way with some light exercises to the soundtrack of classic tunes. Then it was all round the table for a hot drink, biscuits, and a game of Beetle Drive!

We love being able to host these social events every month, doing so with likeminded community specialists to not only create a relaxing afternoon for people to come along to free-of-charge, but to also raise awareness to different support services that are available in the area.

Dementia Support Craft Cafe (28th May)

In partnership with About the Town Skelmersdale, we support their Dementia Support Craft Café at Skelmersdale Concourse Shopping Centre. Which is a therapeutic morning of relaxing arts and crafts where people are encouraged to come along with their loved ones and carers to take part.

It provides an opportunity to get creative and we are always present to ensure that if you have any questions regarding Dementia care, that we will provide appropriate and professional information in response.

Stars of the Week

At Home Instead West Lancashire and Chorley, we are so proud of all our team. Therefore we wanted to make sure they see how appreciative we are of them for their motivation to carry out our values and ethos on a high level every day!

It is why we have launched Star of the Week! Where each week we will celebrate the wonderful achievements of our Care Professionals and Key Players for all that they do.

Firstly, we had Jodie, one of our excellent Care Professionals come in to the office and receive flowers for all the hard work she puts into going above and beyond to not only support her Clients, but the office team too!

The following week we had two Stars of the Week! Julie is our longest serving Care Pro with nearly 12 years of service under her belt. Every day she goes the extra mile for her Clients and colleagues, which has been exemplified by exceptional feedback we have recently received from one of our lovely Clients and their family.

Meanwhile, our other Star of the Week was Liam, our Digital Transformation Officer. Who has made some great efforts in supporting the promotion of Chorley Dementia Hub across our social media platforms – helping it reach new levels of exposure which has supported an increase in the number of followers and support for the Chorley Dementia Hub.

We want to say a big thank you and congratulations to all our Stars of the Week and look forward to celebrating more achievements from our team for many weeks ahead.
