Looking Back at Dementia Action Week 2024

We were so proud to be apart of so many wonderful activities and events during Dementia Action Week, that we wanted to share them again!

From Monday 13th to Sunday 19th May, it was Dementia Action Week. An annual week that brings the UK together to act on improving dementia Diagnosis rates. This is done through taking different approaches to raising awareness around Dementia and the impact that it has on the individuals and their loved ones, that live with it every day.

At Home Instead West Lancashire and Chorley, we are continuously delivering the highest quality of care possible in the local community. This includes specialist care such as caring for those living with Dementia. Therefore, we wanted to make sure that we too got involved in what is such a good way to put the spotlight on Dementia diagnosis, considering that 1 in 3 people with Dementia do not currently have a diagnosis. Which we think is an unbelievable fact!

As a result, we were so proud to be able to host and be a part of various activities and events during Dementia Action Week to show our support. Which we would love to share with you here…

Dementia Awareness Session – Tuesday 14th May 2024

Taking place at Toby Carvery in Ormskirk, we hosted an event that brought together many different community specialists in one room to create a positive environment just to sit, relax and openly talk about Dementia…

We were thrilled to have representatives from AgeUK Lancashire, Azheimer’s Society, Hope Street, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, West Lancashire Borough Council, Iris Therapy Services, Grey Matters Consultancy, NHS Social Prescribing Team, About the Town Skelmersdale, Burscough Neuro Physiotherapy. We were also delighted to have the Mayor for West Lancashire, Councillor Maureen Nixon and her Consort, Laughton Wilkinson, attend the event. Something we were so proud and thankful they took time out of their busy schedules for!

It also served as an opportunity for the public to come, free-of-charge, to discover what is available to them in their area whilst enjoying a hot drink plus cake and biscuits. Walking away with valuable knowledge and awareness.

Chorley Dementia Hub – Wednesday 15th May 2024

As part of Chorley Council’s ongoing commitment to continue making Chorley a Dementia friendly town, we were more than happy to come along and support their annual Dementia Open Hub!

We were there to answer any questions and provide information about the award-winning services we provide in the community. Including the dignified Dementia care that we offer as well.

It was lovely to have the Mayor, Gordon France, and Mayoress Margaret France, attend as well. Coming over to Fazakerley Street to meet the members of the Chorley Dementia Action Group, finding out what amazing support services are available in the area. Helping to raise further awareness for Dementia.

Ormskirk Library Drop-In Session – Thursday 16th May 2024

Our wonderful Community Partnership Manager, Carol, was out at Ormskirk Library for a couple of hours on Thursday morning to happily answer any queries or provide any information that people requested regarding the services we provide.

It was great to have people drop-by and take some of our brochures, if there is anything you would like to know about us, please do not hesitate to get in touch using any of our contact details!

We are always striving to be in the community as much as we can, helping out where possible, offering information of our own and signposting relevant support where appropriate.

Rainford Community Social Group – Thursday 16th May 2024

Every month we host a Community Social Group at Rainford Village Hall. Which is an opportunity for people to attend, no fees attached, to discover some of the services that are available in their area whilst also having a relaxing and fun afternoon.

For May’s CSG in Rainford, the lovely team from Rainford Parish Council, who we run these events in partnership with, hosted a Musical Movement activity. Some seated light exercises to keep the body moving and loosen up.

After that, we also played a round of the classic game, Beetle Drive! Something that always gets people in good spirits and having a good laugh!

We run these events to give people the opportunity to come along and discover what is available in their local area. By signposting the various support services that are in the local community. So these events are fantastic ways that the public can become familiar with the different services.

To keep up to date with all our latest events and to see what is coming up, make sure to check out our social media accounts, where these are posted regularly.

Alternatively, you can contact us on 01695 589071 and we would be more than happy to take your call and let you know what we have planned. Or even if you just want to know more about Home Instead, we are ready by the phone to chat with you.
