What does the HI Charity do?

The HI Charity exists to promote:

  • Healthy Minds in older adults – Almost 30% of women over 65 experience depression. Loneliness is associated with an increased risk of dementia, cardiovascular disease, and other age-related illnesses. The charity run and fund social activities and clubs across the UK designed to end loneliness and improve mental health. These groups empower older adults to make their own peer support networks, crucial in maintaining positive mental health and wellbeing.
  • Healthy Bodies – Use it or lose it! Whilst we are living longer, our years spent in good physical health are not always keeping up. One of the groups the charity run and fund help to keep older adults mobile, improving and maintaining physical health, and of course enjoying a good laugh along the way.
  • Healthy Brains – Learning new skills can help us to continue to contribute to society, improve our self-esteem, and even maintain brain function. At many of the groups, the charity is showing older adults how to use technology. New tech skills are enabling older adults to stay in touch with loved ones who live remotely, access government health services online, and retain independence later in life when mobility issues may prevent people from leaving the house.

10th Anniversary

This year is the Home Instead Charities 10th Anniversary! In the last ten years, thanks to great support the charity has been able to contribute almost £250,000 to end loneliness in older adults to their communities. Home Instead Chingford started off their celebrations by fundraising at our local Tesco.

Spreading Joy with Balloons and Conversations

The event took place outside our local Tesco store in Highams Park, where our enthusiastic team donned bright smiles and Home Instead t-shirts. We handed out colourful balloons to shoppers and engaged in meaningful conversations about the charity’s mission and the incredible work they do.

Connecting with the Community

Our primary goal was to connect with as many people as possible, spreading the word about the Home Instead Charities dedication to enhancing the quality of life for ageing adults. Through one-on-one interactions, we shared stories of the charities work over the 10 years and its impact.

Many shoppers stopped to listen, ask questions, and share their own experiences and concerns about ageing. These conversations were incredibly valuable, as they not only increase awareness but also foster a sense of community and shared purpose. It was heartening to see so many people express their appreciation for the work the Home Instead Charity does and show a genuine interest in supporting the cause.

Gratitude and Looking Ahead

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who stopped by, donated, and took the time to learn about Home Instead. Your support is invaluable, and it underscores the importance of community solidarity in addressing the challenges faced by our ageing population. A special thank you goes out to Tesco for allowing us to host our event outside their store and for their ongoing support of local initiatives.

Looking ahead, we are excited to plan more events to support and celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Home Instead Charity and our target is to raise £500.00 this year.
