End of Life Network in Coastal West Sussex

Supporting Families Through Life’s Most Important Stage

We’re delighted to share news of the launch of the End of Life Network – a new community initiative designed to support families, professionals, and the wider community in having more open and compassionate conversations about death and dying.

The Network has been set up by end-of-life doula Bev Downie as an independent Community Interest Company (CIC), with its own governance and mission to serve the community. Home Instead is proud to support Bev and the Network because we believe so strongly in the values it represents and the difference it will make for local families.

“I wanted to create a space where people feel less alone and more supported in facing conversations about dying,” says Bev Downie, founder of the End of Life Network. “The Network is here to connect people, share knowledge, and bring compassion to one of life’s most important stages.”

Why the End of Life Network Matters

Too often, families feel unprepared when facing end-of-life decisions. The Network aims to change that by creating space for honest conversations, offering practical resources, and building stronger connections between individuals, families, and professionals across West Sussex.

The End of Life Network

The Network is building a stronger, more connected community around end-of-life care by offering:

  • Accessible information on care choices and planning.
  • Community events and social sessions and cafés to normalise conversations about dying.
  • Support groups for both people with terminal diagnoses and their caregivers.
  • Practical guidance to help families navigate personal care, emotional support, and end-of-life decisions.

By connecting professionals, families, and community organisations, the End of Life Network aims to reduce isolation, fear, and uncertainty around dying.
