Step Into Their Shoes: The Dementia Experience Bus Comes to Chichester

An Immersive Dementia Experience in Chichester

At Home Instead Chichester & Bognor Regis, we’re committed to deepening understanding and empathy for those living with dementia.

On Monday, 28th July, we’re proud to host the Dementia Experience Bus (also known as the Virtual Dementia Tour) at our Chichester office — an immersive, powerful training tool designed to replicate the physical and cognitive effects of dementia.

Why the Dementia Bus Experience Matters

Dementia can be difficult to truly comprehend without first-hand experience. The Dementia Experience Bus changes that. By placing participants in a simulated environment that mimics sensory and cognitive impairments, the tour bridges the gap between theory and empathy — helping carers, professionals, and families truly understand what living with dementia feels like.

This isn’t a lecture or a slideshow. It’s an empathy-led, interactive learning journey.

Participants emerge with a deeper appreciation for the challenges people living with dementia face daily, from sensory overload and disorientation to physical discomfort and emotional confusion. It’s one thing to know dementia affects the brain; it’s another thing entirely to feel the frustration and vulnerability that comes with it.

Empowering the Community Through Awareness

We believe that education fuels compassion, and events like this are essential in building a dementia-friendly society. Whether you’re a family carer, a healthcare professional, a business leader, or simply someone who wants to learn more — this experience will leave a lasting impression.

By raising awareness and encouraging open discussion, we can collectively improve how our communities support and interact with people living with dementia. Understanding leads to kindness, better care practices, and the confidence to support those who are often misunderstood or overlooked.

What Makes This Experience So Impactful?

Delivered by the experts at Training2Care, the Virtual Dementia Tour uses innovative technology and immersive environments to recreate what it might feel like to live with dementia. This award-winning training experience has been described as life-changing — not just for professionals, but for family members and members of the public alike.

During the session, participants gain insight into:

  • The sensory and cognitive changes caused by dementia

  • How everyday environments can become confusing, overwhelming, or distressing

  • The emotional toll of memory loss, communication challenges, and disorientation

  • The critical role of empathy, patience, and informed support

At Home Instead Chichester & Bognor Regis, dementia care is at the heart of what we do. We support clients and families every day who are living with the complex realities of dementia. We’ve seen first-hand how a better understanding of the condition leads to more compassionate care, stronger support networks, and improved wellbeing.

Events like the Dementia Bus are more than just training — they’re catalysts for change. Each participant becomes part of a growing movement to make Chichester and the surrounding areas more dementia-aware and inclusive.

Whether you’re a health professional, a carer, a neighbour, or simply someone who wants to do more — your experience on the Dementia Bus could help shape a more understanding, connected community.
