Proudly Introducing Our Dementia Champion in Chichester: Naz

At Home Instead Chichester, everything we do is centred around providing compassionate, high-quality care that truly makes a difference to people’s lives. As part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening the support we offer to clients and families, we are proud to introduce a new initiative within our team — and even prouder to introduce the first person to take on this role.

Naz Clark is our very first Dementia Champion.

Naz has been part of the Home Instead family for eight years, and in that time has become someone both clients and colleagues trust deeply. Known for her calm nature, kindness and consistency, she brings a quiet confidence to her work that puts people at ease. She embodies our values of teamwork, respect, integrity, courage and kindness in everything she does.

Her journey into care is a unique one. Before joining Home Instead, Naz spent 25 years as a Montessori nursery school teacher. While this may seem like a very different setting, many of the skills she developed: patience, adaptability, and the ability to truly understand an individual’s needs, have translated seamlessly into her work with older adults. Alongside her professional experience, Naz also supported her own father through dementia, giving her a deeply personal understanding of the condition and its impact on families.

It is this combination of professional experience and personal insight that makes Naz so well suited to her new role.

The introduction of a “Champion” role within our team is all about strengthening the way we support one another and, in turn, improving the care we provide. Rather than replacing formal training or management, a Champion helps bring best practice to life day-to-day, offering guidance, sharing knowledge, and supporting colleagues through real-life situations.

As Dementia Champion, Naz will be a go-to source of support for her colleagues. Whether it’s helping someone think through a challenging situation, offering practical advice, or simply providing reassurance, she will play a key role in building confidence across the team. She will also contribute to team discussions and, where appropriate, work alongside Care Professionals to explore approaches that support clients in a safe, respectful and person-centred way.

For Naz, dementia care has never been about applying a one-size-fits-all approach. She is passionate about understanding each individual; their history, their preferences, and what matters most to them. Over the years, she has seen first-hand how important continuity of care is, particularly for people living with dementia. Familiar faces, consistent routines and trusting relationships can make an enormous difference, helping to reduce anxiety and create a sense of security.

She also recognises the profound impact dementia can have on families. Alongside her role at Home Instead, Naz has spent nine years as a bereavement counsellor with Cruse, supporting people through loss. The empathy and listening skills she brings to this work are equally important in her care role, where families often need reassurance, understanding and guidance as they navigate an ever-changing situation.

What stands out most about Naz is her genuine passion for what she does. She speaks warmly about the relationships she builds with clients and their families, and the privilege of being part of their lives. It’s this dedication that has made such a lasting impression; reflected in the feedback we receive time and time again.

Stepping into the role of Dementia Champion is a natural next step for Naz. She is excited about the opportunity to support her colleagues, share her knowledge, and offer a fresh perspective when challenges arise. Sometimes, simply having someone to talk things through with can open up new ways of thinking, and Naz is passionate about being that support for the team.

For us, introducing Champion roles is about more than internal development. It reflects our wider commitment to ensuring that every client receives thoughtful, consistent and highly personalised care, especially those living with complex conditions such as dementia.

We are incredibly proud of Naz and the difference she continues to make every day. Her compassion, experience and dedication are a true asset to our team and to the families we support across Chichester.
