Holmebrook Valley Park is a fantastic large park on the outskirts of Chesterfield. This park is great for dogs, with plenty of open space to run and explore. There’s a large lake with a path to enjoy a peaceful dog walk around the water’s edge. There are off-lead areas and a fenced off area is also available for dog training if you need it. The park has free parking, a cafe, and toilets onsite and is accessible, making it perfect for older adults who want to take a leisurely stroll with their pets.
Linacre Reservoirs is a 15 minute drive from Chesterfield and a beautiful nature reserve with three reservoirs surrounded by woodland. It’s the perfect place to enjoy Bluebells in the Spring. Some walks are suitable for those who love a challenge, with steep inclines and rocky paths. However, it also has flat areas that are accessible for those who want to take a gentle stroll around the first reservoir. Dogs are welcome, with some off-lead areas, but keeping them on a lead near the water is important. Paid parking.
Hardwick Park is a National Trust property that’s located just outside Chesterfield. This park has a range of walking routes. You and your dog can explore the parkland while on a lead, but not the hall or the gardens. There are water bowls, dog bins and dog-friendly walks. Free parking for National Trust members and over 60s receive 25 percent of admission and carers with and Essential Companion card are admitted for free.
The Trans Pennine Trail is a long-distance walking and cycling route from coast to coast across the UK. The section that runs through Chesterfield is a beautiful walk that’s perfect for dogs. This flat, well-maintained trail takes you through the beautiful countryside and charming villages. It’s an excellent walk for older adults who want to take a relaxed stroll. There are also sections that are wheelchair friendly, especially around Bluebank Pools.
Grassmoor Country Park is a lovely park just a few miles outside of Chesterfield that offers a range of activities, including walking and birdwatching. This park has a network of footpaths to choose from, that are suitable for all abilities. You and your dog can explore the woodlands and open fields. The park has a free car park, and lots of level ground making it perfect for older adults wanting to stretch their legs.
