If you are looking to discover more of the local area but are not sure where to begin, we thought we would take a closer look at some of our favourite spots:

Carr Vale Nature Reserve

Based just a couple of miles east of Chesterfield, Carr Vale Nature Reserve is one of the best areas for birdwatchers. The beautiful region is home to some truly wonderful birds and other wildlife, while it is also a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of life and unwind in the peace of nature.

Linacre Reservoirs

Another fantastic birdwatching location just outside of Chesterfield is the Linacre Reservoirs. This collection of three reservoirs and dense woodland is the perfect spot to see everything from common woodland birds, such as woodpeckers, to rarer species such as the spotted flycatcher.

Padley Gorge

Based on the Longshaw Estate, which is part of the National Trust, Padly Gorge is a popular spot to go birdwatching in Chesterfield, especially during the spring and early summer months. Visitors during this time will be able to catch a wide range of birds, including the rarer spotted stonechat, wheatear, and ring ouzel.

Hardwick Ponds

This short trail around the stunning Hardwick Ponds is a great route for all abilities. At just 2.6km long, it can be completed in under an hour, and older adults love strolling around this naturally beautiful area and spotting the huge array of wildlife and birds that live nearby.

The Vintage Tea Rooms

After a day outside exploring nature, it’s always great to relax over a cup of tea and a slice of cake and talk about some of the incredible wildlife we have seen. The Vintage Tea Rooms in the heart of Chesterfield is one of our favourite spots to do just that:

“Our award-winning Care Professionals love taking our clients to the Vintage Tea Rooms. The warm and friendly environment makes you feel right at home, while its delicious menu is perfect after a day exploring the local wildlife.” –Stephanie, Owner of Home Instead, Chesterfield.
