Celebrating 10 years with Home Instead Cannock

One of our lovely CAREGivers has hit her ten year anniversary with Home Instead Cannock, so we caught up with Justine to find out how her journey began.

Justine began by telling us how she always enjoyed the company of seniors growing up. “I spent a lot of time with my grandparents and their friends. I loved listening to their tales and looking at old photos. Ten years ago I lived next door to a lovely lady called Edna. I became her ‘unofficial’ CAREGiver. I would help her a lot as she had no family that lived close by. I would help out with day to day tasks and would take her to appointments”

“One of these appointments was at the dentist in Chase Terrace where I saw a poster on the notice board. This was seeking CAREGivers who were required for a new business that was starting up in Cannock. I took the number down and nervously called a lovely person called Ruth, she chatted with me and immediately put me at ease and very enthusiastically told me all about Home Instead and their ethos.” This is where Justine’s journey with Home Instead Cannock began!

Home Instead Cannock was first established by Frances Sayer in June 2010, and within this time, the business has changed offices and grown tremendously covering care across a vast amount of areas. Justine has been with Home Instead Cannock since day one and reflected upon the old offices. “The company was based on the A5, Watling street. At the time the building seemed fine. Fran and Ruth had offices downstairs and the training rooms were upstairs where we had meetings. There was also a car park at the front but quite often we would have to play musical cars or even park off site, and then walk back, which was quite a walk! The rooms were often freezing during winter and boiling in summer, but if we opened windows we couldn’t hear anything because of traffic noise from the A5. Soon the company grew out of Watling street and we moved to Rumer hill. The new offices, wow what can I say! They seemed huge and really modern with lots of parking and bright airy rooms.”

The company has grown and developed over ten years and is now proud to be the area’s leading home care provider for the elderly. We are there to help you or your loved one remain at home thanks to our specialised, bespoke care. Our care at home services in Cannock have been rated Outstanding by the CQC and are tailored to fit around you or your loved one’s life.

As well as location, Home Instead Cannock have moved away from paperwork and moved towards using the ‘Mobizio’ app. Justine explains “There was so much paperwork that had to be filled out and taken into the office or sent via email. I must hold my hands up and say I am not sure when we started using our phones and using the app, but I must say it’s so much easier now! It’s nice to be able to document everything and upload straight to the app for the office to see in real time. Knowing current weeks schedules are available is amazing and we can add body maps, photos and receipts, reducing the risk of misplacing anything.” Within the app are all clients risk assessments, medication and care plans available straight away. This really helps keep all CAREGivers ‘in the loop’ and everything is safe in one place for easy access. Justine explains further “This is really important especially at this time during Coronavirus, as we aren’t able to visit the office. Also, more recently who’d of thought we’d be doing zoom meetings into the office and for additional training, technology ‘”

“I love working for Home Instead Cannock and I love the company ethos. I have been so lucky with the clients I have been matched with, over the years. My second ever client I was matched with I cared for her for just over nine years until unfortunately she had to go into a care home. I really do miss her but I know it was the right time for her to make the move. I could write a book about the lovely chats and funny stuff we got up to. I knew she was fond of me, but one day her son visited he told me how he appreciated the way I took care of his mum and knew she was in safe hands when he was away. He told me that she and he thought of me as the daughter she never had. For me that was priceless to hear! It’s just the little things we do that can make such a difference in someone's life. That’s why I do and love my job!”

Justine continues, “Towards the end of her time with Home Instead Cannock she didn’t remember me or my face anymore, but we would reminisce about the times she had spent with ‘Justine’ and how she missed her, this was heartbreaking but at the same time I knew I’d done my job right. No day is ever the same and some more challenging than others, but the good days are so rewarding.”
