A focus on Care Professional well-being

Understanding the Need for Connection

During the summer, we sent out a staff satisfaction survey to gain a better understanding of how our Care Professionals were feeling and to identify ways we could further support their well-being. One of the strongest themes that emerged was the desire for more opportunities to build stronger connections and engage with peers outside of the usual work environment. As Care Professionals, so much of the focus is on supporting others, and it’s easy to forget to take time to nurture our own sense of community and belonging. Team-building activities not only strengthen relationships but also help improve communication, morale, and overall job satisfaction — all of which contribute to the positive culture we’re proud to foster.

Bringing the Idea to Life

When we asked the team for suggestions, one simple but powerful idea stood out — going for a walk together. Vitalija, one of our enthusiastic Care Professionals, was particularly passionate about the idea and offered to take the lead in organizing it. Together, we developed Stride and Shine, a monthly well-being walk held on the first Friday of every month. The goal is to provide a relaxed, inclusive space where team members can connect, unwind, and recharge while doing something beneficial for their physical and mental health.

The Benefits of Fresh Air and Outdoor Activity

The benefits of being outdoors and getting fresh air are well-documented. Walking in nature has been shown to reduce stress, boost mood, and improve concentration and creativity. It’s also a wonderful way to get some gentle exercise and a healthy dose of vitamin D — all of which can make a big difference to mental well-being. Taking time to step away from daily routines, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy a change of scenery can do wonders for lifting spirits and restoring balance. Stride and Shine encourages exactly that — time to reflect, chat, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company in a peaceful, natural setting.

A Monthly Tradition for Team Well-being

Each month, the group will meet at Barrowford Reservoir, where they can enjoy a scenic walk together. Care Professionals are welcome to come alone, bring their children, or even their dogs — it’s a flexible and friendly activity that fits around everyone’s lifestyle. The aim is simple: to connect, move, and make time for well-being. The response so far has been overwhelmingly positive, and it’s heartening to see such enthusiasm from the team. We’re so excited to see Stride and Shine grow into a cherished monthly tradition that not only supports our health but strengthens the bonds that make our team truly special.
