Our care adapts naturally to what each family needs, whether that’s gentle companionship for a few hours, overnight support, or more comprehensive care throughout the day. Our Care Professionals bring a calm, reassuring presence, focusing on comfort and dignity while working hand-in-hand with families. We understand it’s the thoughtful details that mean so much – from playing your favourite music, to making a cherished family recipe, or simply being there to hold a hand and listen. Every visit lasts at least an hour, giving us time to provide care at a gentle, unhurried pace that feels right for everyone.

We offer two types of home care: hourly care, where we visit at set times, or live-in care, where a carer resides in the home. I came across Home Instead when looking for someone to provide regular companionship for my friend, who is in residential care with dementia. Home Instead has been magnificent in the last year, some specific examples are: from the outset, the Home Instead director had very close contact with myself (who has the greatest knowledge), so that he could gain an understanding of my friend’s needs, interests and cognitive ability, thus tailoring a specific programme for visits. There was much attention to detail and a genuine interest in my friend. We have regular reviews to note changes. Information about the client/visits is held in an app which is easy to use and constantly updated. Continuity is brilliant, always the same person, always punctual, and l am always informed of any changes to the timetable. Immediate feedback on how my friend is, especially if any matters of concern are detected both to myself and the care home. I cannot recommend this company enough, hence a 5-star rating throughout.

When Mum moved from Home Instead in Hertfordshire to Suffolk, we assumed we would find another branch locally to continue the high standards of care we had been accustomed to. Sadly in the Haverhill area this is not the case and whilst there are many branches around, none covered this area. It was really worrying, until the fabulous team in Braintree under the wonderful management, came to our rescue. They adopted a real ‘can do’ attitude right from the start, despite their boundary being nearly an hour from Mum’s new house. With some jigging of personnel, they found a lovely carer to care of Mum and she made the long round trip twice a week and we could not have asked for a more caring and compassionate person. Mum loves her to bits. The difference with this branch is they will bend over backwards to help you, and we could not have moved and settled Mum without their support. If I could lift their branch up and move them to Haverhill I would!! Would not hesitate to recommend.

My elderly father has been using Home Instead since summer 2022 and the service has been excellent. At the initial meeting, the directors and managers took time to find out exactly what his needs and interests were and since then they have kept in close contact to ensure that we are happy with the service including regular reviews as well as suggestions as to how they can improve things for him. The ladies who visit him three times a week are kind, caring, patient and attentive to his needs. He looks forward to their visits very much. Home Instead keeps in close communication in the event of any changes due to staff sickness etc and the continuity of care is excellent. The app they use is very useful and details every visit made. Palliative care is an option that your clinical team may suggest if you or a loved one have received a diagnosis of a serious or terminal illness, such as cancer, lung disease or Alzheimer’s. - How soon should palliative care begin?
Palliative care can be started at any stage of a serious illness, though it can be recommended to start as early as possible depending on the diagnosis and the treatment required. After finding out what treatments are required you can be easily make an informed decision on when palliative care is needed.
- Is palliative care the same as end of life care?
Not necessarily. While palliative care can include end of life care, it is certainly not always the case and can last for a longer period of time. Some people are able to live comfortably for many years while receiving palliative care. The focus is always providing support as you need it to allow you to carry on with your daily life within the limits of your condition.

- Should I continue palliative care after successful treatment?
During your illness you may receive successful treatment from your clinical team. Depending on the outcome of this treatment you may no longer require palliative care, however it may be beneficial to continue for a short while. During the recovery process it can be beneficial to you and your loved ones to have some relief from the physical and emotional stress a serious illness can cause.
