Our Care Pro Karen is up for the Carer of the Year award!
We are therefore very pleased to see her story being shared in the Barnsley Chronicle, well done Karen!
Joining Home Instead Barnsley in November 2022 at 50 years old, Karen had no prior experience in the care sector and wasn’t even sure if it would be for her…
Now, just a few months later, Karen is one of our most outstanding caregivers and has taken to the role exceptionally well. She has built some fantastic relationships with her clients in a short of period of time and has proven herself to be the perfect example of how it truly is never too late to care.
One of the people that Karen cares for is a lady who previously had a bad experience with a care provider which lead her to become much more reluctant to receive help. Amongst other reasons, this unfortunately led her to develop a hoarding habit; struggling to maintain herself and her home.
Together, her and Karen have come on leaps and bounds in their time together. Because of Karen, this lady’s home is now much more habitable and her hoarding is no longer obstructive to her daily life. Karen recognized this to be important to enable her to do the things she loves, such as arts, crafts and reading, and so she simply just made it happen – working hard to improve her quality of life and putting her at the centre of her work here at Home Instead.
This is just one reason why she deserves the Carer of the Year award – we’re sure that there will be many more reasons throughout her future career in care!
