What is the Lavender Lounge Dementia Cafe, and Who is it For?

The Lavender Lounge Dementia Cafe at The Foxes Den in Binfield will be, first and foremost, a community group hosted entirely free of charge by us here at Home Instead Ascot, Camberley and Wokingham. It will be a place where community members from all walks of life can meet and where those with dementia, and their carers can feel part of their wider neighbourhood. A place where you can sit for a moment with a hot cup of tea or coffee completely free of charge or maybe treat yourself to a lovely slice of cake available at the on site coffee shop.

We have chosen The Foxes Den in Binfield as our location because it offers you and your loved one a warm, welcoming community space. A relaxing place to find some peace and quiet in a friendly, accessible environment that’s right in the heart of our local community.

Why We Created The Lavender Lounge in Our Community

Supporting older people across Berkshire and Hampshire communities, we offer home care to those with dementia, seeing first-hand how isolating the condition can be for the individuals, their carers, and their families. And we want to change that.

We want to reach out and offer you a space to visit with us, share your stories, and build new friendships. A place to connect with others in a friendly and understanding environment. Where we can walk our journeys together.

What to Expect When You Visit Us

We want for the Lavender Lounge to be a space where you feel at ease, regardless of whether Mum or Dad is experiencing a less clear day or their dementia has advanced. To accomplish this, we selected a venue that provides plenty of space for you and your loved one to move around comfortably. We’ve also incorporated the gentle scent of lavender because it has a soothing effect on our limbic system, which handles emotions (via the amygdala) and creates new memories (in the hippocampus).

A space where trained, experienced care professionals are present with excellent understanding of dementia and behaviours linked with the condition.

A space where you can discover a caring ear when you need one and support to assist you if you need to take an important call or simply have a quiet moment to yourself. You can also treat it as a space to reconnect with friends.

Above all we want to create a genuine sense of community. And there will be a variety of dementia-friendly activities for Mum and Dad to take part in.
