Ascot Dementia Support: UK Government allowance and benefits

The UK government’s website has several helpful guides, including Attendance Allowance and Carer’s Allowance links.

Attendance Allowance is a top-up benefit for anyone with a disability or long-term condition. It supplements care costs; however, eligibility is discretionary.

Carer’s Allowance is a benefit entitlement for those caring for someone over 35 hours per week. Its aim is to supplement any income loss during unpaid care activities. This is based on your care duty hours and not the number of people you look after.

TheDepartment of Work and Pensions can help you claim one or both of these benefits and any council tax reductions or subsidies. Their helpline should advise you on how that assistance will work.

Meet Ann, a Home Instead Ascot Client

Ann’s story begins with a familiar dilemma: how to provide necessary support while preserving the independence a person treasures. Living in Ascot, Ann had always been active in her community, but daily tasks were becoming increasingly challenging. Our team had carefully selected the most matching live-in care professional for Ann who would support her daily life while also always encouraging her independence.

Positive Impact

Since beginning live-in care, Ann has experienced significant improvements across multiple areas. She continues to get out and about as she’s always loved doing. With her care professional providing support, she can do so safely and still feel like a part of the community. Ann loves the little weekly ritual of having an ice cream with her care professional at a local garden centre, something that is truly a source of joy for her. Recently, Ann’s live-in carer also helped her book an eye test, the result was a beautiful new pair of glasses that Ann absolutely adores — improving both her vision and confidence.

One of the most significant changes has been in Ann’s family visits. Previously consumed with practical concerns, family time has returned to what it should be: quality one and focused on connection.

Supporting Your Journey

From supporting daily independence to ensuring those special garden centre ice cream treats continue, we help create care solutions that honour what matters most. Ann’s story demonstrates that with the right support, it’s possible to have both safety and independence – along with the joy, dignity, and quality of life everyone deserves.
