As a a singer in a band, Hannah finds being a Care Professional gives her the flexibility she needs to top up her income whilst pursuing her interests and hobbies.
Why did you choose to be a Care Professional with Home Instead?
Before working for Home Instead I had never done any Care work before. As a child I grew up watching my Mum work as a carer who provided home care for over 25 years. I could see how rewarding she found it and each day she had fascinating stories to tell me about the clients she grew so close to. So I thought I would follow in my Mum’s footsteps.
What do you like most about being a Care Professional?
What I love most about my role is knowing that I am making a huge difference to people’s lives. Older people often feel alone and forgotten about and I think it’s important to make the last years of a person’s life just as important as the first few years. When I visit my clients it feels as though I am visiting a grandparent. I laugh a lot with my clients and seeing them smile makes me feel really happy inside. Each call is different and each day is different so you never get bored.
Has working with Home Instead met your expectations?
Home instead is a brilliant company to work for and I cannot recommend it enough for people with a good heart who want to enrich peoples lives.
Do you feel the role offers you a good work-life balance?
The job and the hours suit my lifestyle perfectly. I choose the hours that I work and I can still peruse my hobbies and interests out of work. I am singer in a band and the hours that I work don’t affect my rehearsals or evening gigs.
Do the office team work with your availability?
Home Instead have been brilliant at working around my flexibility. They have recently supported me by altering my hours to suit a change in my circumstances.
Would you recommend becoming a Care Professional to others?
Being a Care Professional is such a rewarding job. It’s being a friend and a good listener to people who can feel forgotten about. It’s helping people to remain as independent as possible in their own home.
