Where to feed the ducks in Wrexham

One of our favourite activities on a walk is to feed the ducks – there are lots of places in the local area where you can see the local wildlife and feed the ducks.

Rain or shine, it’s always good to get out and about and enjoy some fresh air.  There are lots of places in the local area where you can go for a gentle stroll.   Walking is a free activity and no matter what the season there is always something interesting to see.

One of our favourite activities on a walk is to feed the ducks – there are lots of places in the local area where you can see the local wildlife and feed the ducks.  Just remember that bread isn’t always the best thing to feed to the ducks.  However, they are partial to oats, seeds and even frozen peas or sweetcorn – just remember to defrost them first!

Gresford Lake

Situated just around the corner from the Home Instead office, between the Memorial Hall and All Saint’s Church you’ll find Gresford Lake (or pond, the debate is still on!).    There are a few benches on the lakeside where you can sit and relax.  The ducks are very friendly and often sit on the bank awaiting feeding time!

Moss Valley

Moss Valley Country Park is situated between Gwersyllt and Brynteg and offers tranquil woodland walks. It’s a great habitat for birdwatching and of course feeding the ducks on the two lakes.  The woodland has an industrial background so many of the paths follow the old rail and tram lines from its coal mining past.

Acton Park

Acton Park is a hidden gem just on the outskirts of Wrexham.  What was the former grounds of Acton Hall, the park still has many landscaped features.  The lake is the central feature of the park and supports a diverse range of wildlife.

Llangollen Canal

Walking along the canal you’ll see ducks, moorhens and some graceful swans swimming along.  At the canal basin visitor centre at Trevor you can buy special duck food too.  However, the most spectacular part of a walk along the Llangollen Canal will be the magnificent Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.  The aqueduct is a stunning feat of engineering and is listed as a World Heritage Site.

If you are feeling brave, you can walk along the towpath right across the aqueduct but you’ll need a head for heights!  If you’d rather not walk across, you can sail across on a canal boat instead to save your legs!
