A Creative Beginning

At Home Instead, we’re proud to share the stories of our Care Professionals — the people who bring warmth, compassion, and dedication to our clients every single day. One such story is that of Holly, whose path into care is anything but ordinary.

Before joining Home Instead just over a year and a half ago, Holly worked in the creative industries. With a degree in contemporary art practice and a master’s in sound design, she spent time working in film and TV production, taking on roles such as sound assistant and boom operator. She also worked in an art gallery, where she discovered something profound: how fulfilling it was to help and connect with people.

That realisation, combined with her personal experiences of seeing her grandparents live with dementia and supporting a close friend with ME, inspired Holly to change direction. She wanted to make a tangible difference in people’s lives — to help them maintain independence in their own homes. Care offered that opportunity.

Finding Her Feet in Care

Like many who join the care sector, Holly admits her first weeks felt “a little bit intimidating.” But through training, support, and hands-on experience, she grew into the role. She learned how to be fully present with clients, to provide emotional as well as practical support, and to balance professional boundaries with genuine empathy.

Over time, she built strong relationships with her regular clients — connections that not only enhance their quality of life but also make her work deeply rewarding.

The office team describe her as “amazing” and “sweet,” adding that clients consistently give positive feedback and that the whole team “raves” about her. “We’re lucky to have you”.

Bringing Yoga Into Care

Recently, Holly completed a month-long intensive yoga instructor training course in Sri Lanka. The experience was transformative, giving her not only new skills but also a deeper sense of presence, resilience, and awareness.

She’s already started teaching weekly yoga classes in West Worthing, with plans to expand into online teaching and new venues. She has also enrolled in a 300-hour advanced course, which will include specialist training in chair yoga and restorative yoga.

What excites Holly most is the chance to bring these skills into her care work. She hopes to gently integrate yoga-inspired movements and chair-based exercises for her elderly clients, particularly those living with dementia. These subtle activities — such as guided arm movements or light weight-bearing exercises — can help maintain strength, mobility, and confidence, which are so important for independence and wellbeing.
