Home Instead Charities

We are the charity of Home Instead, the UK’s leading provider of home care. Our joint mission is to expand the world’s capacity to care. We bring happiness into the lives of our ageing population by addressing loneliness and isolation.

How does our charity help local communities?

At Home Instead Charities, we see the change of scope that our growing, ageing population creates. Ageing adults enrich our communities and our lives. We are committed to protecting the quality of life for all ageing adults, with the hope that every older adult has the opportunity to age with dignity and independence. We often talk about making sure our ageing adults have access to basic needs; a home, food, heating, lighting, transport and healthcare. We all need these things; but, without having good mental and physical wellbeing and happiness in our lives surely we’re all just existing? We need more to truly thrive, no matter our age.

Why do we need to support our ageing communities?

Loneliness and isolation can have a devastating impact on someone’s quality of life. With more people living longer, and more people over the age of 55 than under it, more people are at risk of becoming isolated and lonely. We tackle loneliness before it causes long term mental health issues; but, did you know loneliness can create physical health problems too?

  • Loneliness increases your risk of dementia by 40%.
  • Loneliness increases the risk of cardio-vascular disease.
  • 60% of people in care homes have a mental health condition.
  • More than a third of GP visits for over 55’s are to treat the symptoms of depression.

It is a fact that someone who is depressed is less likely to look after themselves, eat well, take part in exercise, take care of their personal care or look after their home.

By supporting Home Instead Charities you can help to prevent loneliness and isolation in adults over the age of 55.
