Whether you’re looking for groups for older adults in West Lothian, support for an ageing parent, or simply ways to stay socially connected this summer, the guide is full of useful local information and resources.
As always, this latest edition includes our growing directory of local support organisations, social groups, community activities, wellbeing services, and clubs for older people across West Lothian – now featuring hundreds of opportunities to get involved.
Here’s a little look at what’s inside this summer’s guide:

🚶 Gentle Walks and Outdoor Activities for Older Adults in West Lothian
This edition features West Lothian on Foot: Gentle Walks to Enjoy This Summer, highlighting accessible outdoor spaces and walking opportunities for older adults looking to stay active and improve wellbeing.
From the scenic paths around Linlithgow Loch to the peaceful surroundings of Beecraigs Country Park, Almondell & Calderwood Country Park, and Polkemmet Country Park, there are plenty of ideas for gentle exercise and days out with ageing loved ones in West Lothian.
We also highlight local walking groups and organisations including Xcite Ageing Well, OPAL Cyrenians, West Lothian 50 Plus Network, Spark, and more – helping older people stay social, active, and connected in their local communities.
For families supporting older relatives, these kinds of regular activities can make a real difference to confidence, mobility, mental wellbeing, and reducing social isolation.

🍳 Recipe of the Season: Spanish Omelette (Tortilla Española)
Our summer recipe is a simple and satisfying Spanish Omelette, kindly provided by Food Train West Lothian.
Easy to prepare and gentle to eat, this healthy recipe is ideal for older adults and can be enjoyed warm or cold during the summer months.
Alongside the recipe, we also highlight the fantastic work Food Train carries out supporting older people across West Lothian through shopping services, befriending, outings, and practical support for people experiencing ill health, frailty, or isolation.

💦 Supporting Healthy Ageing with Good Boost
This edition also features Good Boost, a supportive water-based exercise programme helping older adults improve mobility, strength, and confidence through gentle pool activities.
Programmes like this can be especially beneficial for older people living with joint pain, reduced mobility, or long-term health conditions and are another great example of the wellbeing opportunities available locally in West Lothian.

👁 Vision Support Group West Lothian
We’re also shining a spotlight on the fantastic work of the Vision Support Group West Lothian, which provides friendship, encouragement, and social opportunities for people living with visual impairment.
For older adults experiencing sight loss, groups like this can provide valuable emotional support, practical advice, and opportunities to stay connected within the community.
The group warmly welcomes new members and meets regularly in Livingston.

🚲 Spotlight On: Fauldhouse Cycling Without Age Trishaw
This quarter’s spotlight feature focuses on the wonderful Fauldhouse Cycling Without Age Trishaw project.
The specially adapted trishaw gives older adults and people with reduced mobility the chance to enjoy safe, supported rides outdoors with friendly volunteer pilots.
Projects like this help ageing adults remain connected to their local communities while supporting mental wellbeing, confidence, and social interaction.
The team is also looking for volunteer pilots, with full training and support provided.
