Are We Asking the Right Questions About Dementia? World Alzheimer’s Month in West Leicestershire & Market Bosworth<br />
September is World Alzheimer’s Month, a time when communities across the globe come together to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support those affected by dementia. At Home Instead West Leicestershire and Market Bosworth, we’re marking this month by not only asking the right questions but also by taking meaningful action. From sharing stories of our care professionals and the people we support, to participating in local events and creating space for open conversation, our team is proud to be part of a movement that puts compassion and understanding at its core. Whether it’s a memory café, a family story, or a heartfelt moment in our office, we’re committed to shining a light on the lived experiences behind dementia.
In this blog, we’ll explore what World Alzheimer’s Month means for our local area, how we’re taking part throughout September, and the ways you can get involved. From personal stories to community events, every action contributes to building a more dementia-aware West Leicestershire and Market Bosworth.
World Alzheimer’s Month, led by Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI), is a global campaign to improve awareness of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Held every September, its goal is to challenge stigma, encourage dialogue, and inspire communities, professionals, and governments to respond more meaningfully.
It centres around World Alzheimer’s Day on 21st September, which highlights the lived realities of dementia. This isn’t just a campaign, it’s an urgent reminder that dementia is a growing issue facing people across West Leicestershire, Market Bosworth, the UK, and beyond.
Globally, over 55 million people are living with dementia. In the UK, it remains the leading cause of death. And yet, dementia too often stays hidden. It exists behind closed doors, within whispered conversations, and among families navigating care with limited guidance.
This year’s campaign theme, #AskAboutDementia, aims to change that silence. By asking open questions, we can reduce fear, normalise discussion, and build the understanding needed to better recognise the signs and support those affected.
In our local community, many families are quietly caring for loved ones living with dementia. These families may be facing new challenges every day, confusion over diagnosis, difficulties navigating care options, or simply the challenge of adjusting to a loved one’s evolving needs.
Home Instead West Leicestershire & Market Bosworth supports individuals with dementia across our towns and villages, but we also listen. We’ve seen firsthand how opening up just one conversation can lead to support, connection, and clarity.
Throughout September, our West Leicestershire & Market Bosworth team will be taking part in activities designed to promote open conversations about dementia:
These small moments can make a big difference, by inviting everyone who walks through our door to take part in the conversation.
We’re proud to support awareness walks, memory cafés, and coffee mornings organised by local community groups and Alzheimer’s Society branches.
And this year, we’re delighted to be hosting our very own Free Dementia Awareness Session:
📅 Wednesday 17th September 2025
📍 46 Boston Road, Leicester, LE4 1AA
Everyone is welcome to join. Whether you’re a family member, care professional, friend, or simply curious to learn more, this is a chance to better understand dementia and the impact it has on people’s lives.
Let’s come together to build a more informed and compassionate community.

We’ll be using our platforms to highlight the stories, events, and facts that matter. Using hashtags like #AskAboutDementia and #WorldAlzheimersMonth, we aim to keep the conversation going beyond 21 September.
Look out for:
And if you’d like us to feature your story, just get in touch.
Behind every diagnosis is a person. A family. A community. Stories like these help bring clarity to what can often feel confusing or isolating.
We hear similar stories from families in West Leicestershire every week, and they remind us why this campaign is so important.
On 21 September, the World Alzheimer Report 2025 will be released, focusing on rehabilitation in dementia care, covering topics like occupational support, physical therapy, and how technology can help people with dementia live well for longer.
Meanwhile, organisations such as Dementia UK and Alzheimer’s Research UK continue to campaign for better services and fund scientific work that may one day lead to prevention or improved treatment.
Your support, whether it’s attending an event, donating, or simply sharing your story, helps keep this research and advocacy alive.
As more resources move online, it’s important to ensure websites and support tools are user-friendly for those with cognitive issues. Platforms like Alzheimer’s Society and ADI are improving accessibility with features such as adjustable font sizes, language options, and cookie preferences that don’t overwhelm users.
At Home Instead, we’re also working to ensure our online resources are accessible and useful. Our team is always available for a conversation offline too, we’re always here to help if you’d prefer a conversation over the phone.
If you or someone close to you is affected by dementia, support is closer than you might think:
Our local Home Instead team is always here to help with care planning, advice, or simply a listening ear. Whether you’re navigating a recent diagnosis or just have questions, we’re just a phone call away.
World Alzheimer’s Month 2025 isn’t just about statistics or social media, it’s about real people, real families, and real community support. By asking questions, listening to stories, and showing up for events, we can make dementia a more open and better understood part of community life.
So, if you’ve ever wondered what dementia really is, how to spot the early signs, or how you can help someone living with it, this is your moment to start the conversation.
Let’s ask. Let’s listen. And let’s work together to make West Leicestershire and Market Bosworth a place where no one faces dementia alone.
