Dementia-Friendly Singing in Watford: Our Free Monthly Club for People Living with Memory Loss

Finding something to look forward to, that feels genuinely welcoming for both you and your loved one, can be one of the hardest parts of living alongside dementia.
Singing for the Brain Bushey is our free, friendly monthly club held at Bushey House Beaumont Care Home, run in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society. It is open to anyone living with dementia or memory loss, as well as the family members and friends who care for them. No experience is needed and no booking is required; simply bring your voice, meet new people, and experience the positive impact of music.
What Happens at Singing for the Brain Bushey?
Singing for the Brain is an evidence-based therapeutic music programme supported by the Alzheimer’s Society. At its heart, it’s simple: a group of people coming together to sing familiar songs, share a cup of tea, and enjoy each other’s company.
Music has a remarkable relationship with memory and songs from the past can reach people in ways that ordinary conversation sometimes can’t; easing anxiety, lifting mood, and creating moments of real connection and joy. Research consistently shows that music-based activities can support communication, reduce feelings of isolation, and improve overall wellbeing for people living with dementia.

But beyond the evidence, what people who attend tend to say is simply: it feels good to be there.
There are no auditions, no wrong notes, and absolutely no pressure. Singing for the Brain Bushey is a warm, relaxed space where everyone is welcome exactly as they are. You can find out more about the programme on the Alzheimer’s Society’s Singing for the Brain page.
Who Is Our Singing for the Brain Club For?
Singing for the Brain Bushey is open to anyone who would benefit from a gentle, sociable, music-based activity in a dementia-friendly environment. This includes people living with:
- Dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia
- Parkinson’s disease
- Motor Neurone Disease (MND)
- Stroke-related memory and communication difficulties
- Mild cognitive impairment or early memory loss
Family members and carers are warmly encouraged to come along too. Many people find that sharing something enjoyable together, that doesn’t revolve around care, means as much to them as it does to their loved one.
You’re also very welcome to come on your own. Whatever your situation, there will be friendly faces to greet you.

Why The Club Matters to Us
Stephanie Turner, Group Business Development Manager at Home Instead Watford:
“We know how much life can narrow when someone you love is living with dementia, for them, and for you. Something as simple as an hour of singing with other people, a biscuit and a cup of tea, and a room full of friendly faces can make a real difference to how a week feels. That’s why we wanted to bring Singing for the Brain to Bushey. We hope it becomes somewhere people look forward to coming back to, month after month.”
