Supporting Memory, Confidence and Wellbeing at Home: Re-Mind Partners with Home Instead Watford

At Home Instead Watford, the people we recommend to our clients have to meet a high bar. They need the right experience, the right values, and a genuine understanding of what it means to support our local older community. Helene Meyer of Re-Mind meets all of that and we’re pleased to include her in our local directory as a trusted specialist serving Watford and the surrounding area.
About Helene Meyer and Re-Mind
Helene has worked in the care sector for over 15 years, supporting individuals in both hospital environments and in the community as a Support Worker. Over that time, she saw first-hand how the right therapeutic approach could change things for people living with dementia, not in a small way, but meaningfully; greater confidence, stronger connections with the people around them, and a noticeably better quality of life.
That experience led her to train formally in Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) and she went on to found Re-Mind, a specialist practice built around the principle that every person living with dementia deserves support that is personal, purposeful, and properly informed by therapeutic expertise.

What is Cognitive Stimulation Therapy?
Cognitive Stimulation Therapy is a structured, evidence-based programme developed to support people living with mild to moderate dementia. It works by gently engaging thinking, memory, and communication through themed activities and conversation, and has been shown in clinical research to help maintain cognitive function, improve mood, and support a person’s sense of identity and connection.
Unlike medication-based approaches, CST is entirely non-pharmacological, working through meaningful interaction, and the benefits are felt both by the individual and the people closest to them.
As Bob Woods, a Clinical Psychologist involved in creating the programme, explains:
“People taking part in cognitive stimulation report increased quality of life relative to those receiving usual care and they typically improve on tests of memory and other abilities. The effects appear to be in addition to those on any medication the person is receiving for dementia. Carers can be confident that this programme is based on the best evidence on what makes a difference for people with dementia.”
How Helene Works With Clients
Helene offers a one-to-one, person-centred programme, developed around what feels genuinely meaningful and enjoyable for each individual. Sessions draw on reminiscence work, creative activities, and language stimulation, all designed to engage cognitive skills in a way that feels natural rather than clinical.
She understands that for someone living with dementia, timing matters. Sessions are arranged at the time of day that suits the individual best, so they feel comfortable and receptive from the start. Each session opens with a gentle warm-up which may include familiar music, light movement, or easy conversation about everyday topics, before moving into the full 50-minute programme, with flexibility built in for breaks as needed.

Helene’s support extends to families too. Caring for someone living with dementia can be emotionally demanding, and many family members tell us they feel underprepared for what the role asks of them. Helene works alongside families directly, offering practical guidance, honest conversations, and coping strategies to help them feel more confident and less alone.
The Re-Mind programme typically begins with an initial consultation to ensure the sessions are perfectly tailored to the individual’s background, interests, and current needs.
