Sun and Ice Cream to inspire good memories

The team at Home Instead Warminster & Gillingham made waves recently by sponsoring a day at the beach for the clients they support.

As part of our mission to enhance the lives of older people in our communities, Home Instead Warminster and Gillingham arranged a “Day at the Beach” for some of our clients that we support.
Summer is almost over and so many of our seniors have not even been able to smell the sea breeze!” Explains Sonia Carr – Care Manager at Home Instead. “So, we decided to arrange a bus, and several of our Care Professionals volunteered to accompany people on a beach adventure, ensuring that everyone had an enjoyable day of fun, sun and sea!”
The group journeyed to Bournemouth Beach for the day on Wednesday 13th September, sponsored by Home Instead, to enjoy the views, stroll along the promenade and indulge on fish and chips on the seafront.

After a lovely walk through the beautiful gardens, and a stroll along the beach, taking in the sounds, sights and smells of the sea, the entourage descended on Harry Ramsden’s restaurant for a well-deserved lunch of fish and chips. For some members of the group, it brought back memories of living near the sea, and for others it was an opportunity to reminisce about holidays and good times spent in the sand and surf. For everyone, it was a beautiful day out in the sun and fresh air, making new friends along the way and enjoying a sense of community.
“It is so important to create opportunities for older people to enjoy the outdoors”, according to Sonia Carr. “Initially it may seem daunting to some, but with a little planning and reassurance, we can make it happen. Even a little trip like this can bring so much joy to peoples’ lives”.
