This year, it will take place on December 9 from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm on the Abbey cloister lawn. Don’t miss the Farmers’ Market in the marketplace and on the Abbey flags. Indoor stalls will also be open from 9:30 am in the Priory Buildings of the Abbey and the main Abbey itself.

But the festivities don’t end there. Add a sprinkle of magic to your winter with Hexham’s Christmas lights switch-on scheduled for November 24. School children will be part of the countdown to light up the Christmas tree donated by Egger. And if that’s not enough, enjoy late-night shopping and lend support to your local retailers.

Kielder Observatory

If your family has an interest in the night sky, you’re in for a treat. Kielder Observatory runs family events that are not only educational but also a great deal of fun. Aimed for children aged 5 and above, these events often include a tour of their observatories and a hands-on experience with their telescopes. They even have a special ‘Space Kids’ event where little ones can touch real space rocks and launch their own rockets. Remember, tickets often sell out early, so be sure to book in advance through their website.

December heralds the continuation of Hexham’s Christmas Market starting on December 09. A variety of stalls will offer arts, crafts, gifts, and homewares.
