Enjoying Activities With Older Adults in Tyne Valley

Our wonderful Tyne Valley, stretching either side of the River Tyne, is home to a variety of villages, each offering its unique charm. From the community spirit in Corbridge to the peaceful ambience at Heddon on the Wall, there’s a perfect spot for every interest. Whether it’s browsing the local shops in Riding Mill, soaking in the tranquillity of Stocksfield, or enjoying the picturesque scenery around Prudhoe and Ovingham, we make sure to support our older adults to get out and about if they wish and feel the heartbeat of their local community.

One favourite outing for a delightful afternoon is the weekly Luncheon Club in Hexham. It’s more than just a place to enjoy a meal; it’s where conversations can flow, friendships flourish, and laughter is served alongside the food. It’s a lovely opportunity for older adults to socialise, enjoy good company, and feel connected to the community.

Sometimes it’s appropriate to stay home and enjoy a melody or two, BBC Music Memories is a portal to the past, stirring fond recollections through tunes that resonate with the hearts of our older adults. Care Professionals and clients can sometimes enjoy a singalong or simply enjoy listening to the music. These shared moments aren’t just recreational; they’re instrumental in fostering a sense of wellbeing and nostalgia.

There’s something special about the aroma of a familiar home-cooked meal. Our Care Professionals cherish time spent cooking simple meals together with the older adults. It’s a chance to maintain routines, and to encourage clients to eat well, and stay involved with cooking if appropriate, and perhaps to reminisce about traditional cuisine. Cooking becomes not just a daily task but a meaningful moment in the day.

Garden centres can provide a change of scene and a great day out for all mobility levels, and a touch of horticulture for our green fingered clients. Meanwhile, parks and gardens offer the perfect setting for gentle strolls, bird watching, or simply sitting on a bench, embracing the great outdoors with a Care Professional by their side.
