Forget Me Not Cafes

Companionship over a cuppa, peer support and entertaining activities

Forget Me Not Cafes are provided by Volunteers of The Dementia Friendly Community

The Dementia Friendly Community formed in 2015 and registered as a charity in 2019.

The group started out with the aim of raising awareness of good dementia practices and services. But soon after inception, it started raising money through ‘Run, walk or push against dementia’, facilitating sponsorship and donations to provide local services for people living with dementia and their families.

They provide ‘Forget-me-not cafés’ across the Sevenoaks District and a ‘Forget-me-notes’ singing group .

The Cafes offer companionship over a cuppa, peer support and entertaining activities for people living with memory loss.

If you need personal or physical support please come with a family member or a carer. Please make them aware of any food allergies.

The groups are free to attend.

Another lovely meeting to enjoy some arts and crafts session

Arts and crafts can be incredibly fulfilling for the elderly, providing a wonderful way to engage creatively, reminisce, and socialize. Here is what we did in the last session:

Painting and Drawing: Session where our guests could paint and draw. Watercolors, acrylics, or even simple pencil sketching were very therapeutic and enjoyable.

Sometimes we have Music and Dance sessions where music is incorporate into crafting sessions or host separate sessions where they can listen to or create music. Dancing can also be a fun and social activity.

Our activities suit people’s interests and capabilities. Some may prefer more structured sessions, while others might enjoy free-form creative time. Creating a welcoming and supportive environment is always essential for them to feel comfortable expressing themselves.
