Launching the WOW Guide for Thornbury, Yate and Dursley

As part of our Later Life, Better Informed campaign, we’re delighted to be launching something that has already made a meaningful difference in other communities we serve — our WOW Guide for Thornbury, Yate and Dursley.
At Home Instead, we believe that supporting people in later life starts with information, connection, and confidence. Often, the biggest challenge older adults and their families face isn’t care itself — it’s knowing what support, activities, and services exist locally.
That’s exactly why the WOW Guide was created.
A proven resource in our communities
Our WOW Guides have been supporting communities in Oxford and Swindon & Vale of White Horse for more than four years. Over that time, they’ve become trusted resources for older adults, families, and professionals alike.
Local organisations regularly share the guides within their own networks, and families often tell us how helpful it is to have local support and activities gathered in one place. For many, the guide becomes something they turn to.
Seeing the positive impact these guides have had is what inspired us to create one for Thornbury, Yate and Dursley.

Introducing the Thornbury, Yate and Dursley WOW Guide
Our new WOW Guide brings together a wide range of local information designed to help people stay connected, active, and supported in later life.
Inside the guide, you’ll find information about:
-
Community groups and social activities
-
Exercise and wellbeing opportunities
-
Dementia-friendly support
-
Local charities and voluntary organisations
-
Advice, guidance, and practical sources of help
These opportunities play an important role in helping people maintain independence and wellbeing. Staying socially connected, physically active, and mentally engaged can have a significant impact on quality of life and can often delay the need for more formal care and support.
Sometimes, the right group, activity, or conversation can make all the difference.

Supporting “Later Life, Better Informed”
The launch of the Thornbury, Yate and Dursley WOW Guide is an important part of our Later Life, Better Informed campaign, which focuses on helping people access the information they need before situations become overwhelming.
Too often, families tell us they didn’t realise what support existed until they were already struggling. By making local information easier to access and understand, we hope to help people feel more confident navigating later life.
The WOW Guide is a practical example of how small pieces of information, shared at the right time, can have a lasting impact.

A community effort
Like our other WOW Guides, this one reflects the strength of the local community. It brings together the work of community groups, charities, healthcare services, and organisations across Thornbury, Yate, and Dursley who all play a role in supporting people to live well in later life.
We’re excited to see this guide grow, evolve, and become a trusted resource for the community — just as it has in Oxford and Swindon.
