WELCOME TO OUR APRIL 2024 NEWSLETTER

Welcome to the latest issue of Older Wiser Together (OWT)

The aim of OWT is to become a trusted and valued part of our community, particularly for those aged 50 or over who may be looking for new opportunities, social events, and challenges, as well as tips for independent living. We cover from Bude, Launceston, Callington, Holsworthy, Okehampton, Tavistock, Saltash and Torpoint.  We hope you’ll find useful information on initiatives and activities in your area.

We had a busy time over Easter getting together with our staff across Devon and Cornwall.  These team meetings are so important for among other things building our company culture.

It was World Parkinson’s Day recently and we supported the day by dressing in blue and eating in blue. We are still recovering from eating the blue food dye!

Looking forward to May, the virtual dementia bus will be in Devon and you can catch it in Tavistock 16th May. See below for more details.

We always welcome feedback, constructive criticism, and submissions for OWT, particularly from those of you with professional or charitable links to our community. Do get in touch if you have something you’d like to share. Please feel free to forward this Newsletter to family, friends, and colleagues.

Best wishes,

The Older Wiser Together Team

Care Professional Meetings

We get together with our teams across Cornwall and Devon regularly.  We offer our staff chance to come together near their homes so we programme a series of meetings. As well as being invaluable for our staff to be able to catch up with each other, we can update them on new initiatives, update training, have some fun and celebrate achievements.  Happy employees make for happy clients with good outcomes all round.

Above and Beyond

We have a number of Care Professionals who have been with us for a number of years now.  Sarah has been looking after one particular client for over 5 years and this had enabled him to stay in his own home with delicious home cooked food, living how he wished to live.  The well-being of our clients is so important to our teams.  We have a few staff who are very unwell at present and they are very much in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. We love you all.

Make it Blue

It was World Parkinson’s Day recently and we spent the day being blue to help raise awareness. From wearing something blue to blue cup cakes we took part in raising awareness of the condition.  People with Parkinson’s don’t have enough of the chemical dopamine in their brain because some of the nerve cells that make it have stopped working. Around 153,000 people live with Parkinson’s in the UK. And it’s the fastest growing neurological condition in the world.  You can find out more at https://www.parkinsons.org.uk/

Tavistock Dementia Alliance Virtual Dementia Bus

Tavistock Dementia Alliance has booked a “walk in their shoes” virtual experience for Dementia week in May. The dementia bus will be in Tavistock Town Square on Thursday 16th May.  This will be a fantastic day and places on the bus are limited. If you are interested in a place email [email protected], but do book quickly!

If you can support the TDA and make it your local cause for this year, please do follow this linkCoop Local Cause.

Live-in Care

Live-in care involves a specially chosen Care Professional moving into their client’s home. They provide companionship and practical support throughout the day, enabling that person to continue living the life they have always known and doing the things they enjoy the most. Families have peace of mind knowing there is someone supporting their loved one on an ongoing basis, not only providing daily support but company too. We know that finding care isn’t easy. With so many options and choices, it can be hard to know where to turn. But our care begins with you. By spending more time listening and understanding your circumstances than anyone else, we’re confident we can help you get through it. So give us a call and we’ll help you find the answer, with no pressure to make a decision right away.
