Home Instead Bringing Dementia Simulator Bus to Cornwall Conference

Home Instead Dementia Simulator Bus at the Cornwall Dementia Conference ahead of Dementia Action Week 2026

Visitors to this year’s Cornwall Dementia Conference will have the opportunity to experience a Dementia Simulator Bus – an immersive experience designed to help people understand the everyday challenges faced by those living with dementia.

Ahead of Dementia Action Week 2026, Home Instead Tavistock and Tamar Valley is partnering with Home Instead Mid Cornwall and Home Instead Truro, Falmouth & Redruth to bring the simulator to the Cornwall Dementia Conference 2026 taking place in Wadebridge on Friday 15th May.

What is the Dementia Simulator Bus?

The Dementia Simulator Bus is a hands-on experience that uses sensory tools and practical tasks to replicate some of the challenges dementia can create in daily life.

Visitors experience how dementia may affect:

  • Memory and concentration
  • Communication and understanding
  • Confidence and decision-making
  • Sensory processing
  • Mobility and coordination
  • Emotional responses such as confusion or frustration

The aim is to build understanding through experience rather than explanation alone.

Why the Experience Matters for Families and Professionals

For families, the simulator often provides clarity about why a loved one may struggle with everyday tasks, repeat questions, or react differently in familiar environments. It helps shift understanding from frustration to empathy and practical support.

For care professionals, healthcare teams and community organisations, it highlights how small changes in communication and environment can significantly improve wellbeing, independence and confidence for people living with dementia.

Who Should Attend?

The experience is open to:

  • Family carers and relatives
  • People living with dementia
  • Healthcare professionals
  • Local businesses
  • Community organisations
  • Anyone wanting to better understand dementia

If you are supporting someone with memory loss or changing behaviour, the simulator can help you better understand what they may be experiencing.

Dementia Simulator Bus Timings:

AM session: 9am – 12:45pm

PM session: 1:30 – 3:30pm

(3 people every 15 mins – no flip flops or open toe shoes)

Dementia Action Week 2026

Dementia Action Week (18th–24th May 2026), led by the Alzheimer’s Society, is a national campaign focused on raising awareness, encouraging earlier diagnosis and improving support for people affected by dementia.

Understanding dementia earlier can help families make informed decisions and access the right support at the right time.
