We're sharing Amy's story of development within Home Instead and how the Care Skills Academy is helping shape her future growth.

Amy is one of our fabulous Senior Care Professionals and she joined our team in 2024 having not worked in care before. During the recruitment process we knew that Amy had the right personality and heart to become a Care Professional, and she soon got stuck into the role and took on all the necessary learning and training. We had great feedback early in her journey – she had a gentle nature and was very well-liked by her clients.
Over time, Amy showed enthusiasm, interest to learn and grow, and a natural ability to care. She was promoted to a Senior Care Professional at the start of 2025 having shown interest in additional responsibilities within the office team. She started being part of the on-call rota pretty much immediately, and showed confidence in answering queries, auditing, medication error checking and supporting and mentoring new Care Professionals.
In the summer, we nominated Amy in the ‘Newcomer’ category in the Oxfordshire Care Awards 2025. It was clear that the judges saw what we saw in Amy, and she was named a finalist!
We attended the award ceremony with Amy at Blenheim Palace and it was a great celebration of Amy’s achievements – she didn’t win the award but she won in our eyes!

Amy continues to excel in her role. She supports the office team with many tasks to ensure our clients and Care Professional’s are happy and well looked after. Our launch of the Care Skills Academy is greatly supporting Amy’s growth – she has undertaken additional training recently in autism and learning disabilities, medication assessing, moving and positioning, and catheter care with some of our new training providers. Having these extra skills really supports the Care Supervisors and Trainer in our compliance, and Amy has taken everything in her stride. Amy currently sits in the ‘Experienced Professional’ category of our Care Skills Academy pathway, and the full pathway outlines steps she can follow to reach future roles and potential – we’re excited to see how she continues to grow!

We asked Amy to share her thoughts on her role and her development, and she said “I joined Home Instead in 2024 with no care background at all, however with the support of the office team I had all the training that I needed to start my career within the care industry. Early in 2025 I was given the amazing opportunity of becoming a Senior Care Professional which is something I never dreamt of so early in my career with Home Instead. To make things even better… I was nominated for an award at the Oxfordshire Care Awards 2025 in the category of Newcomer to Care – and I was a finalist! I had the absolute pleasure of attending Blenheim Palace for the award ceremony with the team. I really couldn’t thank Home Instead enough for all the help, support and guidance they have given me, they really are an amazing company to work for.”
