At Home Instead Sutton, we believe that good care isn’t just about physical health—it’s about looking after mental wellbeing too.
Older adults often face challenges like loneliness, grief, and the stress and confusion of managing health changes. Age UK tells us that one in five older people living in the community experience symptoms of depression. That’s a figure we can’t ignore. And we don’t.
Our Care Professionals are trained to notice the small things. A change in mood, a lack of interest in things that used to matter, or simply that someone hasn’t had a proper chat in a while and might be experiencing loneliness. It’s part of the personal, thoughtful support we offer, the meticulous care notes we write and how we act on our findings.
But we’re also incredibly lucky to be based in Sutton.
The Sutton Carers Centre is a brilliant local hub that’s here for carers and older adults alike. They offer advice, support groups, and activities that make a real difference.
One of their newer initiatives, the Tuesday Club, is a wonderful example. It’s a welcoming space for people living with dementia and their carers to come together, share experiences, and enjoy activities that lift the spirits. It’s real support—easy to access, non-judgemental, and full of friendly faces.
For families who are new to caring, or who are navigating the ups and downs of supporting an older loved one, Sutton Carers Centre can be a real lifeline. We work hand-in-hand with our community partners wherever we can, making sure that those we care for, and their families, know what’s available locally.
Our approach to mental health support at Home Instead Sutton is simple:
We take the time to listen to our clients.
We encourage keeping active—whether it’s a short walk, a hobby, or a community activity.
And we know when to suggest more support, always pointing families to trusted local places like Sutton Carers Centre.
Caring for mental health is just as important as helping with day-to-day tasks. In fact, it’s often the small, everyday moments that help someone feel like themselves again.
