Private Care at Home Stockport

Private Care at Home Stockport

Private Care at Home gives you or your loved one the chance to stay in familiar surroundings, with flexible support that fits around everyday life rather than the other way round. With Home Instead Stockport, care is built around the person, their routines and the things that matter most to them.

We support older adults and their families, offering practical help, personal care and companionship at home. Whether someone needs a little support with daily tasks or more regular visits throughout the week, the aim is to make life feel safer, calmer and more manageable. We also support people in Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme and Cheadle Heath.

Looking into care can feel like a big step. Many families say they are unsure where to start, or worry about what the future might look like. It is completely natural to feel this way and you do not have to have everything worked out before you talk to us.

Home Instead Stockport is rated Good by the Care Quality Commission and has a rating of 9.8 out of 10 on homecare.co.uk, which can offer extra reassurance when you are considering Private Care at Home for someone important to you.

What is Private Care?

Private Care at Home means planned visits from trained Care Professionals, at times that suit you, in the comfort of your own home. It is suitable for people who want to stay independent, but who would benefit from regular support, company or a little extra reassurance.

It can help if, for example:

  • Getting washed, dressed and ready for the day has become tiring or unsteady.

  • Shopping, preparing meals or keeping on top of the house now feels like too much.

  • A family carer is feeling worn out and needs regular breaks.

  • There are worries about memory, confusion, dementia or taking medication safely.

  • Someone is feeling lonely after a loss or a change in their health.

  • Every visit is tailored to the person. Our Private Care at Home can include a blend of Companionship Care, Home Help, Personal Care and specialist Dementia Care where this is needed, all arranged as part of our visiting Care at Home service.

How Support Works Day to Day

When you contact Home Instead Stockport, we start with a conversation about your situation and what you are looking for. If you would like to explore things further, we arrange a home visit so we can meet you and your loved one, listen carefully and build a picture of what would help.

From there, we create a personalised care plan. This sets out what will happen at each visit and when, always with room to adjust as needs change. We then match you with Care Professionals who are a good fit in terms of skills, personality and interests, so that support feels natural rather than intrusive.

Our support might include:

  • Morning help with getting up, washing, dressing and preparing breakfast.

  • Home Help such as light cleaning, laundry, changing the bed and keeping the kitchen tidy.

  • Preparing fresh meals, encouraging regular drinks and supporting special diets where needed.

  • Companionship, conversation and shared activities such as puzzles, TV, music, reading or short walks.

  • Dementia Care, including gentle prompts, reassurance and support with safe movement around the home.

  • Personal Care, always carried out with dignity and respect, such as bathing, toileting and continence support.

  • Support with medication prompts, keeping an eye on general wellbeing and letting family know about any concerns.

  • Early evening calls to help with supper and a calm, settled bedtime routine.

  • You can have visits at set times of day, on particular days of the week, with the option to adjust or increase support if things change.

The role of Care Professionals

Care Professionals are at the heart of Private Care at Home with Home Instead Stockport. We look for people who are kind, patient and genuinely interested in others, then provide training so they can offer safe, thoughtful care in the home.

They are supported to:

  • Treat every person as an individual, not just a list of tasks.

  • Take their time, so visits feel unhurried and respectful.

  • Protect privacy and dignity during Personal Care.

  • Encourage independence where it is safe, rather than taking over.

  • Notice changes and share information with the office and family, so everyone can work together.

  • You will usually see the same familiar Care Professionals wherever possible, which helps trust and confidence to build over time. Families often tell us that the relationship and companionship become just as important as the practical support.

Practical Examples of Support

Here are some everyday ways Private Care at Home can make a difference.

A little extra help each day

Margaret lives alone and manages well most of the time, but getting showered and dressed has become harder. A Care Professional visits each morning to help her wash, get ready and prepare breakfast. They also put on a load of washing, tidy the kitchen and sit for a chat before they leave. Her family feel reassured that someone is checking in on her regularly.

Supporting someone living with dementia

John has dementia and can become anxious if routines change. His Care Professionals visit at set times during the week to provide Dementia Care, including calm conversation, gentle prompts, support with meals and help with moving safely around the home. Familiar faces and a consistent routine help him feel more settled, and his wife has some time to rest and catch up with her own tasks.

A break for a family carer

Sonia cares for her mum and needs a few afternoons each week to focus on work and appointments. Private Care at Home means a Care Professional visits for several hours, combining Companionship Care, Home Help and Personal Care. They might prepare lunch, encourage a short walk if appropriate and help her mum rest comfortably, while Sonia uses the time knowing her mum is in safe hands.

Frequently Asked Questions About Private Care at Home

What is included with Private Care at Home?

Private Care at Home is built around the person and can include Companionship Care, Home Help, Personal Care and Dementia Care where needed. For example, a visit might involve help with washing and dressing, preparing a meal, light housework, medication prompts and time for conversation or shared activities. The exact mix is agreed in the care plan and can be adjusted as things change.

How flexible is the support if our needs change?

Support is designed to be flexible. If someone’s health, mobility or confidence changes, or if a family carer needs more or less help, the office team will review the care plan with you. Visit times, length and frequency can often be adjusted, and what happens during each visit can be updated so that support still fits everyday life.

How do you match a Care Professional to my loved one?

When we first meet you, we ask about the person’s interests, routines, personality and what they feel comfortable with. We then look for Care Professionals with the right skills and a compatible manner, for example similar hobbies or a shared outlook. Where possible, we introduce the Care Professional in advance so everyone feels at ease, and we aim for continuity so the same familiar faces visit regularly.
