The team that look after my father are excellent professionals. Supervisor and three care professionals. These team members are a credit to Home Instead, so grateful for their help.
S R (Daughter of Client)

I do not know where we would be without Home Instead and their wonderful carers. Everyone is without exception caring and kind. Also so professional, noticing changes in Mum’s condition speedily so that we can be proactive in seeking early help from GP/District Nurse etc. They are there in times of crisis and always supportive and going over and above what you might expect. I cannot recommend you highly enough. You are enabling Mum to stay as safe as she can be in her own home which is what she wants.
Claire H

My father has been part of the Home Instead ‘extended family’ for over two years. As his needs have changed the service that he receives has been adjusted to enable him to live well in his own home. As a whole family, we continue to be reassured and impressed by your genuine care, friendliness and high professional standards. We additionally hear of much enjoyment and humour during the visits each day! I admire the way that through the portal notes. Through some challenging years, I congratulate Home Instead for providing such a steady presence in my father’s life. Thank you so much!
Jacqui L (Daughter of Client)

Home Instead have been a lifeline. They have provided excellent care and support for my Dad since 2018. They have also been there for us, Dad’s family, offering help, comfort and peace of mind if needed. I have the highest of praise for all the staff at Home Instead. From the managers to the support team at Headquarters to the dedicated care givers who have looked after Dad so well. Over the years they have maintained a very high standard of service including the very difficult Covid period.
J K(Daughter of Client)

I can say that since Home Instead was introduced her life has significantly changed for the better. From being depressed and in danger of eating out of date food to being happy and more confident and by finding not only helpers but new friends. The service has proved reliable and with continuity maintained. The staff have kept her safe and have shown great kindness, even going above and beyond in making sure she enjoys her shopping trips and other little treats. I am impressed with the leadership and am grateful that I am kept up to date and that we can share opinions and thoughts. When required any action is taken straight away.
Ann H

From our first conversation with staff at Home Instead we felt comfortable with their client-centred approach towards Dad’s needs. The practical advice they gave to us (his family) about getting him to accept the care was superb, as we knew Dad would not want this… “he was fine”.
Since Home Instead started to visit my dad for an hour per day on weekdays, the positive changes in his physical appearance, eating/drinking habits, and general outlook on things has been dramatic.
Well done, your input here is fantastic and very much appreciated. One of my biggest clients who are also a franchise domiciliary care providers have told me that Home Instead are very well respected in the industry.
G J

All of my family have been consistently impressed with the high level of service and care provided by both the staff delivering care to our mother at her home and also the office support staff. Being able to deliver the flexible care our mother needs as well as being so genuinely caring is very reassuring to us as a family as we all live some distance from Mum. The Annual Review just undertaken again demonstrated that Home Instead provide the care that is needed with compassion and professional standards that are of the highest quality.
Simon J

My review reflects the ongoing care that Home Instead have provided for my Mother and Father (Latter RIP 2018) over the last 8 years and continue to do so. It’s wonderful; Very carefully sensitive and very warmly done whilst being very efficient and thus reassuring for my siblings and I, who all live at least 90 minutes away. The team have been quick to spot and flag up any changes in behaviour that might need addressing e.g. UTI. as well as helping my Mother to get her Covid vaccinations despite backlogs at the GP. Thank you very much.
Julian J

The standard of care Mum consistently receives is just exemplary. The caregivers are amazing, and have improved the quality of Mum’s life so significantly. As well as her personal care and support with daily living, they take her out on walks and outings and do craft activities and baking with her; all the things she used to love so much. They are so gentle and patient with her, and so understanding of the struggles she now faces. I never have to worry when a caregiver is with her because the quality of care is so high. We have excellent support from the Care Manager and Head Office staff, and the communication is brilliant.
We absolutely love our time together at the Memory Café! I consider it to be the best quality time I spend with Mum now, where we laugh and have fun together, and she is just like my old Mum! I am so grateful for this resource, and the support it gives me as a family Carer.
Heather S

I would highly recommend Home Instead as a result of their wonderful care for my nan. All the staff went above and beyond many times, always providing a high level of professionalism and excellent care.
The caregivers were all so lovely and made my nan feel very special and loved, in what was a difficult time for her. Our family could not have asked for more. I know my nan was incredibly grateful for everything the Home Instead team did for her.
As a family, if we ever had a query, there would always be a reassuring and friendly voice at the end of the phone.
Thank you so much to everyone.
Jackie W

I am very pleased with all aspects of my care plan. All the carers help me a great deal and if there is something that needs doing they will do it for me if they have time that is allotted to me. If not they will do it on their next visit.
D S

Home Instead has supported and cared for my mother, who is 94, for the last six years. The caregivers have always been reliable and caring towards my mum. She would not have been able to stay in her own home without the help of Home Instead. It has been well worth the expense.
Linda H

Home Instead is the best, caring, consistent, professional, reliable. Seeing my caregiver is the highlight of my week. Without them, I would be in a terrible pickle.
D P (Client)

Very happy with the level of care and service provided. Very friendly and caring staff who have helped my grandparents immensely.
Annmaree R

My Dad has Dementia and is recently widowed. His general health is OK, for his age, but his eyesight and hearing are both poor. As I live over 40 miles away, I was finding it difficult to look after my dad’s needs and fit in with work and family commitments. Home Instead was recommended to me by a work colleague and they have been an absolute Godsend.
The quality of the care my dad gets is excellent, it is noticeable that his general well being has improved as a result of the regular care visits he has been receiving. For my part, I have found that both the carers and the management team have been very well organised and we have a superb working relationship. As Dad’s needs have changed, Home Instead have been quick to both inform me and adjust the care support provided. I am now able to not have to worry about how Dad is. I would strongly recommend Home Instead as an excellent care support agency.
Steve H

We have found Southampton Home Instead to be a thoroughly professional and caring company. The management has shown great organisational skill to provide the level of care that we believed my mother required, at a time when they were already heavily committed. The level of patience and dedication of the careers has been exceptional over the seven months that we have been using the Home Instead services. We are very happy that we managed to persuade them to take on the care of my mother at a time when we were finding it very difficult to find a solution to our needs.
Malcolm B

The care and support that my Dad gets from the team of Home Instead is excellent. Dad feels safe and comfortable in his own home with their help and support and I am very grateful for their help as it enables me to work. They are also very kind and helpful if we have any problems.
Dawn M

Home Instead have provided care for my mother for the last few years and I honestly don’t know how mum would stay living independently in her own home without them. The carer team give amazing continuity and their care is second to none. They add so much to mum’s life and ensure she is happy and content. The office staff too, are always so helpful and understanding and oversee the whole service really well. Thanks again to everyone!
Mo F

Since contacting Home Instead, the whole family have been really impressed at the friendly and adaptive approach to providing care that Home Instead have provided since the middle of last year (2018). We initially contacted them to provide care to my mother-in-law and father-in-law, as my mother-in-law was discharged from hospital with terminal lung cancer and my father-in-law has dementia. Since taking them on, all the carers have provided a sympathetic, calm and friendly approach to the care they provided. Since then, we have sadly lost my mother-in-law but they continue to provide a high level of care and compassion to my father-in-law, in particular with his dementia, they are patient and understanding with him. When you hear of some, quite frankly alarming stories about carers, I can say hand on heart, Home Instead provide a level of care that we, as the family, feel happy and confident that we chose the right team to provide the care that my in-laws deserve. We rate them highly.
Mark W (Son-in-law of Client)

Mum has been extremely pleased with the service received. The ladies that visit have taken time to chat with Mum and get to know her better. They listened to Mum during a period of loneliness. They will also undertake household chores as directed my very houseproud mum.
Avril (Daughter of Client)

I first made contact with Home Instead at the end of Aug 2018 with a view to putting morning care in place for my mother. It started in September and from day 1 they have been a pleasure to deal with. We are now over 3 mths into this arrangement and they have never let my mother down. When I’ve asked for additional help (e.g. hospital visits) they have gone out of their way to accommodate her requirements. Two ladies were nominated to supply care to my mother and both, as far as she is concerned have become ‘friends’. She very much looks forward to their ‘visits’! Care is never cheap and I’m sure Home Instead are not the cheapest in the area, but as with most things, you get what you pay for. From my perspective, my mother is getting value for money, not that she values the care she gets in monetary terms – from her perspective she now has 2 new ‘friends’ who are helping her with her daily needs. I can not praise or thank Home Instead enough. I am very happy to recommend them! 5* service!!
Neil P (Son of Client)

Carers are very punctual and reliable – never actually known them to be late, let alone not turn up! Know the routine, the client seems very comfortable with them, nice having the same carers.
Shirley R (Friend of Client)

The Home Instead team are compassionate and caring. They help Mum with her aches and pains and suggest ideas to make her life more comfortable. They are also extremely professional. They take responsibility for day-to-day activities and chores and use initiative when they see something that needs doing. Mum would certainly not be able to stay at home without the support of Home Instead.
David D (Son of Client)

Myself and my family have been very pleased with the level of care provided by Home Instead, we have faced one or two challenges since they have been looking after Mum and they have been brilliant.
Everyone is always very friendly and helpful in the office, nothing is too much trouble. The carers on Mum’s team regularly go above and beyond to look after Mum and she gets on well with them which is the main thing. Mum’s happiness and safety is our main priority and keeping her in her own home for as long as possible.
The portal is invaluable with all the notes from the carer’s visits as my Mum has dementia this is absolutely crucial and if there are any concerns raised by the carers the office will always contact me if the matter is urgent.
The best decision we ever made engaging Home Instead.
Sharon C (Daughter of Client)

Home Instead provide an incredible service to my dad, regularly going above what is expected. They are quick to respond to any change in needs and regularly review to ensure the right level of care is in place. But most importantly the caregivers care and always do what is best for dad.
K S (Daughter of Client)

Over the years, Home Instead has provided excellent carers who have given me great service along with friendship and care. I could not remain in my house without them. I can recommend this company to anyone needing help in their home.
J J (Client)

The team at Home Instead (Southampton) have supported my parents for almost a year and a half now, and in that time have shown huge compassion and care towards them, really getting to know them, and treating them as the individuals that they are. When my mum sadly passed away recently, the Care Professionals worked hard to support her, my dad and us as a family, often adapting her care at short notice to meet her increasing needs. They treated her with great kindness and dignity, making her final weeks easier for us all. They continue to support my dad, adapting to his new needs and showing genuine empathy. He told me recently that they’re like family to him – this gives us huge peace of mind. I can’t recommend Home Instead highly enough. They’re marvellous.
Cathy T (Daughter of Client)

Making the decision to move from another home care provider to Home Instead (Southampton) was the best decision I could have made.
I have been particularly impressed and grateful for the team’s responsiveness to Dad’s needs when the team have gone above and beyond on a number of occasions.
J R (Son of Client)

Dad has been using Home Instead (Southampton) for well over a year now and as a family, we have been delighted with the care he has received. He has a regular team of carers who are all lovely, kind and very professional their care has enabled Dad to stay in his own home and still live independently. I would like to thank everyone for all their hard work and dedication in looking after Dad.
Tina S (Daughter of Client)

I’ve been using Home Instead for personal and general care for over four years. The carers they send are all extremely good. They’re friendly, professional and reliable.
I’d recommend Home Instead (Southampton) wholeheartedly.
Ronald G (Client)

The managers, staff, and carers at Home Instead Southampton are really good. My mother had used them for a couple of years. She had a fall 10 weeks ago, ended up in hospital, and went to a care home.
She seemed well enough to go back home after about 9 weeks. Home Instead did a fantastic job helping to get her home but unfortunately it became clear my mother was not fit enough, even with three visits a day. I was physically and emotionally exhausted keeping an eye on her after the first night, they could not have been more caring or understanding for me and my mother. The management were clearly more concerned about our well-being than the loss of business. I could not recommend them more strongly. I would like to thank them all for their loving professionalism.

Search here if you cannot see your town or postcode - What is domiciliary care?
Domiciliary care, also known as home care, refers to a range of supportive services provided to individuals who require assistance with daily activities but wish to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. This type of care is tailored to the specific needs of each person and can include tasks such as personal assistance, meal preparation, companionship, and even light housekeeping. Domiciliary care allows the elderly to maintain a degree of independence while receiving the necessary support to lead a fulfilling and safe life at home, with peace of mind for their loved ones knowing that they have support.
Discover More - Why choose domiciliary care?
Domiciliary care allows elderly people to remain at home in a familiar environment – boosting wellbeing and happiness – while promoting independence and autonomy, providing personalised and family-involved care, being cost-effective compared to institutional options like care homes, reducing lifestyle disruption and helping to maintain routines. All these things can contribute to better emotional and mental wellbeing, but also provide peace of mind to elderly individuals and their families. The decision to opt for domiciliary care depends on individual needs and circumstances, with many of the advantages stemming from its tailored, in-home support.
- How does domiciliary care help?
Domiciliary care provides valuable support to elderly people by offering a range of services tailored to their needs that are delivered within the comfort of their own homes. These services can include assistance with daily activities such as personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and medication management. Care Professionals can aid in meal preparation, ensure proper nutrition, and help with mobility. Companionship and social interaction are also crucial components, addressing feelings of isolation and loneliness.
It is also a great way to enhance the safety of elderly people at home, reducing the risk of falls and accidents through monitoring and support. Household tasks like cleaning and laundry can be managed too, alleviating more stress. All of these types of help together means that domiciliary care promotes independence, enhances quality of life, and provides a sense of well-being and security for elderly people who may have difficulty managing on their own.
- How much is domiciliary care?
The cost of domiciliary care can vary widely depending on factors such as the level of care needed, the number of hours of care required, the geographic location, and the specific services provided. Generally, domiciliary care costs are broken down into hourly rates, and the total expense can accumulate over time. Domiciliary care can often be more affordable than moving to a care facility, but it’s essential to research and understand the costs of services covered by the fees to make the right choices for yourself or your loved ones.
- Is domiciliary care good value/cost effective?
Domiciliary care can often provide very good value and be highly cost-effective, especially when compared to the expenses associated with moving into a care home or similar residential facility. While the exact costs depend on individual needs and location, receiving personalised care in the comfort of home can be more affordable and efficient in terms of both financial investment and comparative wellbeing. Having care and support delivered at home allows seniors to maintain their independence, avoid the costs associated with residential care, and receive tailored assistance that can enhance their quality of life. However, it’s important to thoroughly assess the specific services, rates, and available funding options to make an informed decision about the cost-effectiveness of domiciliary care for your specific situation.
- How is domiciliary care funded?
Domiciliary care can be funded through several avenues. Private payments allow individuals and/or their families to cover costs directly, while long-term care insurance policies may also provide coverage to help. Government support is available through programs like the National Health Service (NHS) and local authorities, which offer assistance based on care needs and financial circumstances. Veterans may access funding through veterans’ benefits, and charitable organisations or grants can provide additional financial aid. Both personal budgets and direct payments are generally offered by local authorities, giving people more direct control over how to fund care services. Navigating these funding options usually entails meeting eligibility criteria, and selecting the best-suited avenues for the financial and care requirements you or your loved ones have.
- Who might use a domiciliary care service?
Domiciliary care services are sought by all kinds of people who require support to maintain their independence and wellbeing as they age, or to help ease back into a routine at home after surgery or in the case of long term illness. Family caregivers seeking respite and support also often welcome at-home support to help with managing long term care, and it can be highly beneficial to elderly people who may feel isolated or lonely, as Care Professionals provide companionship and social interaction. Anyone in need of personalised assistance and support with daily activities within the comfort of their own home can benefit from some form of domiciliary care.
- What is the role of a domiciliary care worker?
A domiciliary care worker’s role involves providing tailored support to seniors within their homes. Workers assist with personal care tasks like bathing and grooming, aid in mobility, prepare nutritious meals, offer companionship, manage medications, perform light housekeeping, provide transportation, and monitor health conditions. Their responsibilities extend to emotional support, safety awareness, documentation, and collaboration with healthcare professionals. By promoting independence and well-being, Care Professionals providing domiciliary care play a crucial role in helping the elderly to maintain a comfortable and fulfilling lifestyle within their own homes rather than needing to be taken into a residential facility.
- What is the difference between domiciliary care and residential care?
Domiciliary care, or home care, offers personalised support within an individual’s own residence, encompassing tasks like personal care and companionship. It allows seniors to remain at home while receiving the necessary assistance. In contrast, residential care involves relocating individuals to specialised facilities such as assisted living or nursing homes, where they receive around-the-clock care, including help with personal needs, meals, and medical requirements. The decision between these options hinges on someone’s particular care needs and their preference for staying at home or transitioning to a residential care facility.
- What domiciliary care services can you provide?
At Home Instead, we provide a comprehensive range of domiciliary care services designed to help elderly adults maintain their independence and comfort within their own homes. Our offerings vary by location but typically include essential services such as companionship, where our Care Professionals engage in conversations, games, and outings, and provide emotional support. Personal care services encompass assistance with daily activities like bathing, grooming, and mobility support. Day care services offer companionship and engagement during the day, while our home help and housekeeping assistance ensure a clean and organised living environment. Overnight care, respite care, and other specialised services are available to meet unique needs. Contact your local Home Instead office to learn more about our tailored domiciliary care options.
