Are you a knitter, crocheter, or sewing enthusiast? We'd love you to take part in Mary's Blanket Challenge!<br />
Are you a knitter, crocheter, or sewing enthusiast? Do you belong to a club, group, business, or just love crafting on your own? Then we’d love to invite you to take part in Mary’s Blanket Challenge – a heartwarming initiative to support those living with dementia and vulnerable individuals across the South.
Challenge Dates: 1st October – 30th November
We’re looking for 100 clubs, organisations, businesses and individuals to join us in creating one fidget sensory blanket per group.
These blankets will be:
– 🧶 Exhibited in Southampton at the beginning of December
– 🎁 Gifted as Christmas presents to people living with dementia or those who are vulnerable in our community.
Autumn is the perfect time to cosy up with a creative project. Whether you’re crafting solo or gathering your group for a “knit and natter”, this challenge is a beautiful way to connect, create, and contribute.
Plus, there’s a little friendly competition! 🎉
We’ll be awarding **1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes** for the **most creative blankets.

Let’s come together to make a difference—one stitch at a time.
Happy creating! 💜
Here are a few examples of fidget blankets made by Mary and her daughter Penelope.
If you take part, please add some of your personality onto your blanket: e.g. if you live by the sea, then why not add fish, the sea and seagulls?
or if you love football – a football pitch and a football
or if you belong to a book club – books covers!
We have a plumbing company taking part and they have added taps and pipes
Our Fareham NHS home visiting team have babies, storks (and fur babies) on theirs – so the design is only limited by your imagination!
