Join Home Instead South Manchester this World Alzheimer’s Month as we raise awareness, share stories, and support.
September marks World Alzheimer’s Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, sharing stories, and supporting those living with dementia. At Home Instead South Manchester, we’re proud to stand alongside families, care professionals, and the wider community in recognising this important month. This year, our team is not only reflecting on the impact of Alzheimer’s but actively taking part through events, personal stories, and local partnerships. From attending awareness sessions to showcasing heartfelt experiences from our care professionals and clients, we’re shining a light on dementia in a way that feels real and local. Whether it’s a care professional sharing their family’s journey or an event we’ve attended here in South Manchester, our aim is to make dementia a visible part of the conversation this September.
In this blog, we’ll explore what World Alzheimer’s Month means, why 2025 holds special significance, and how our South Manchester team is taking action. We’ll also share practical ways you can get involved, along with inspiring stories from those affected.
World Alzheimer’s Month is a global campaign that takes place every September, culminating in World Alzheimer’s Day on the 21st. Launched by Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI), the campaign aims to raise awareness and challenge the stigma that continues to surround dementia.
It’s a worldwide reminder that dementia is not only a personal or family experience. It touches entire communities, health systems, and economies. According to Alzheimer’s Society, dementia is now the leading cause of death in the UK, yet still lacks the funding, focus, and care infrastructure it urgently requires.
In 2025, the campaign’s message is clear: let’s bring dementia into the open. Let’s listen to those affected. And let’s work together to improve understanding and care.
By the end of this year, around one million people in the UK will be living with dementia. Many will still struggle to get a diagnosis, access care, or find clear information. Families often carry the emotional and practical responsibilities families often quietly carry in silence.
This year’s campaign theme encourages people to share their stories. Stories of diagnosis. Stories of caring. Stories of living well with dementia. Every voice contributes to a deeper public understanding and helps make dementia a shared conversation, not a hidden struggle.
Throughout September, our team at Home Instead South Manchester is getting involved in small but meaningful ways to support the World Alzheimer’s Month campaign.
Here’s what we’re planning locally:
We’d love to hear what you’re doing too. If you’re sharing your story or attending a local event, let us know. We’ll happily help amplify your message.
You don’t need a public platform or fundraising team to support World Alzheimer’s Month. Here are some practical ways you can make a difference:
Have you or someone you care about been affected by dementia? Sharing your story, on social media, in a local paper, or even among friends, can help others feel less alone.
Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walks are taking place across the UK this September. They’re open to everyone and create space to reflect, remember, and connect. You can find your nearest event on the Alzheimer’s Society website.
Talking about dementia shouldn’t feel awkward or taboo. Ask questions. Share facts. Offer a listening ear. Every conversation helps break down stigma.
If you know someone caring for a loved one with dementia, check in on them. Offer a cup of tea. Send a message. Help with errands. Small gestures make a big difference.
Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK, and Dementia UK offer clear, accessible resources on everything from diagnosis to daily living. At Home Instead, we’re also happy to talk to you about how we support people living with dementia at home.
Whether you’re looking for help now or just want to understand your options, Home Instead South Manchester offers expert, compassionate home care for people living with dementia.
We tailor our care to the individual, not just their diagnosis. Our team receives specialist dementia training and our visits are designed to support routine, dignity, and emotional wellbeing. We also work closely with family carers, helping to reduce stress and share practical advice.
If you’d like to talk to us about dementia care or arrange a no-obligation conversation, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You’ll find our contact details on theHome Instead South Manchester website.
Although World Alzheimer’s Month is a dedicated awareness campaign, the reality of dementia doesn’t stop on 30th September. Neither should our efforts.
As we look ahead to the future, the 2025 World Alzheimer Report, focusing on rehabilitation, will be released later this year. It’s expected to offer practical recommendations for helping people with dementia maintain daily skills and confidence.
At Home Instead South Manchester, we’ll be reading this closely and considering how we can adapt our support in light of emerging guidance and international best practice.
World Alzheimer’s Month is about unity. About recognising the scale of the challenge but also the power of connection. Whether you’re lighting your window in purple, joining a walk, or simply learning more, your actions matter.
Let’s continue to speak up for those who might struggle to do so alone. Let’s keep listening. Keep learning. And keep supporting each other.
Because no one should have to face dementia without understanding, kindness, and care.
