National Loneliness Week (10–16 June 2025) shines a light on a growing issue - one that many older adults face every day.
At Home Instead South Manchester, we see how small moments of connection can make a big impact. From a friendly chat to a shared hobby, our Care Professionals bring comfort and companionship where it’s needed most.
Why Loneliness Matters in Our Community
Across South Manchester, from Didsbury and Chorlton to Withington and Burnage, many older people live alone. Some may not have spoken to anyone for days. Loneliness isn’t always obvious, but it’s deeply felt. And without regular contact, it can affect confidence, mood, and even health.
That’s why we place so much importance on quality time during our visits. We don’t rush – we listen, talk, and make sure every person we support feels valued.
A Personal Approach to Care
We match clients with Care Professionals who genuinely connect with them. These are real relationships, built on trust and shared interests.
· Margaret, 85, is passionate about poetry. Her Care Professional brings a book with her each week, and together they read aloud and talk about favourite authors.
· Jim, 78, used to love walking but didn’t feel safe doing it alone. Now, he enjoys weekly strolls around Fletcher Moss Gardens with a familiar face beside him.
These aren’t just care visits – they’re meaningful moments that help reduce loneliness and bring joy.
How You Can Make a Difference
· Reach out to a neighbour, friend or family member – a short visit or phone call can really lift someone’s spirits.
· Start a conversation – ask about memories, hobbies, or favourite books.
· Share your time – volunteer with local groups or check in with someone who may be feeling isolated.
· Contact us – if someone you know could benefit from regular companionship, we’re here to help.
Together, We Can Make a Change
Loneliness can’t always be seen, but together, we can take steps to ease it. One visit at a time, we’re building a more connected, caring South Manchester.
