The Peak District

In an effort to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and heritage of the nation’s most breath-taking sights, The Peak District National Park was established in 1951 as the very first of Britain’s 15 national parks.

Voted one of the ‘Best UK Holiday Destinations’, we really are lucky to have the Peak District so nearby. Just between 20 to 30 minutes car/bus journey away, this destination is simply too special to miss out on.

Closest may be the Curbar and Froggatt Edges, just outside of Sheffield. These edges are renowned worldwide for their panoramic views that are accessible by foot or by car. At Curbar Edge car park, there is often a small café-in-a-van; selling freshly made coffees, cakes and crisps. Alternatively, the quaint little town of Bakewell makes for the perfect day out, with several unique tearooms and bookstores to explore when strolling through the streets.

Sheffield Botanical Gardens

Located just off Ecclesall Rd, Sheffield’s Botanical Gardens are easily accessible to all visitors. Simply step out of the hustle and bustle of Sheffield streets and enter these gardens to instantly immerse yourself into an abundance of nature. This quiet haven offers a different kind of vibrance, one that is much more serene and calming than the day-to-day business of modern life.

Not only are the gardens free and open with a café 7 days a week, but ever since they opened in 1836 they have hosted many events, too. These events have ranged from Art Exhibitions, Plant Shows and Plant Sales throughout the years – perfect for any of our plant-lover readers!

Westwood Country Park

This park is a stunningly silent sanctuary, the perfect destination for a summer’s day! Originally the route of an old railway in 1854, Westwood Country Park is steeped in history. Now, the park has been returned to nature, with miles of woodland footpaths and a waterside path along its small reservoir.

Located in North Sheffield, its flat terrain makes it an ideal outdoor space for all visitors (including dogs!), as well as car parking being available nearby.
