An Alzheimer’s diagnosis can be overwhelming, but rest assured you’re not alone.
With September being World Alzheimer’s Month, we wanted to share some resources that may be helpful for you. While it can be devasting to hear that diagnosis of Alzheimer’s for yourself or for a loved one, support is available and with the right support we believe it’s possible to live well and even thrive in the face of an Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
There are of course national organisations such as the Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia UK that provide a wide range of information and advice. More locally, in Wiltshire we have Alzheimer’s Support.
There are also plenty of smaller local groups and activities available, which can be a real lifeline both for individuals with Alzheimer’s and their families.
Alzheimer’s Support run a day club in Salisbury city centre as well as a group for unpaid carers of those supporting people living with dementia. They also hold a weekly Music for the Mind group in Harnham on Thursdays.
Salisbury Museum run a conversation club on the third Monday of each month, while Goldies run music groups in both Salisbury and Downton. Silver Salisbury also organise and signpost to a wide range of activities for older adults in the Salisbury area.
Finally, if you think that your loved ones may need support from a regular carer, then please do reach out to the team here at Home Instead Salisbury and Romsey as we’d be more than happy to chat. As we do with all our clients, we work with our clients with dementia and Alzheimer’s and their families from the outset of their journey with us to provide bespoke, person-centred care, so if you’d like a helping hand on your journey with Alzheimer’s, please do get in touch.
