I cannot thank all at Home Instead enough for the help and assistance they have provided in looking after my wife L while she fights with the debilitating disease of dementia.
The office staff are extremely pleasant and efficient and will do their best to meet any requirement, no matter how unusual, or late in the day it may be.
In particular, my grateful thanks to E, L’s carer who offers so much more than just looking after her and keeping her safe.
There have even been times after E has left that L, though not remembering her name, asks where the lady who has been helping her is, and when is she coming back.
This, in itself is progress and I am confident that the ongoing relationship can only be for L’s benefit.
If anyone finds themselves in a similar position, I can highly recommend Home Instead to provide the necessary assistance and comfort in what will be ongoing difficult times.

My mum receives excellent , professional and friendly care. We are confident that her carers are able to spot any signs of her being unwell, and always raise their concerns to us so that we can take action. They communicate efficiently so that everyone can work together to ensure mums safety and wellbeing. The lunch club has also been a great addition allowing mum to have her own social activities. Thank you everyone.

The manager at Home Instead Ruislip provides an excellent service that allows peace of mind to the Elder receiving the service as well as those family members taking care of the Elder. Reliable and trustworthy, the carers we’ve had have been kind and treat my mother with respect and compassion. I appreciate their willingness to be accommodating for last minute requests. Overall, it’s a pleasure working with the manager and his team.

Well done to your team for talking my mother into going. That’s a first!.

Client JM October 2024

My mother, aged 99 has been supported by ‘Home Instead’ over the past few months. The ‘Home Instead’ carers have been of great support in helping Mum remain as independent as possible. The service so far has been responsive, sensitive, consistent and flexible and I feel reassured that a bespoke package of care would be delivered to meet any change in Mum’s needs should this be required in the future. I would not hesitate to recommend Home Instead and feel lucky that we found them!
Clients Daughter AW September 2024

Mum got the right care until her very last day which we are very grateful for, we couldn’t have asked for anything better. Thank you for everyone for what you did for B and provided her with the best care at home.

J called to compliment A and C. They are such a good team together. They get on with their tasks. It’s one of the best combinations T has had after I and E.
Client’s Wife J January 2024

As a family we have always been very impressed with the care Mum has received form your care givers and I know Mum has always been happy with it too.
She has enjoyed seeing all her carers but is particularly fond of J and they have developed a close bond.
Client’s Daughter LD February 2024

We have always appreciated the excellent care you have given to M, as she did, and this allowed us to keep her at home, rather than going into a care home. With all the trauma and upheaval that would have caused.
Client’s Nephew MH March 2024

I’d also like to say that T’ has been great and we really appreciated her nice way with Mum, flexibility, and Birdie reports. As Mum’s main PC T’ stands out but the other carers who have helped with Mum have been very good as well and it has made a big difference being in close touch with you and N’ (as well as other colleagues), I really appreciate being kept informed and again the flexibility in responding to Mum’s care needs.
Client’s Daughter DP March 2024

I did a service review at K; the family are very happy with the care they are receiving. They wanted to thank J and V for helping with D’s leg and keeping the house clean.
Client’s Daughter April 2024

All members of staff have all provided me with outstanding care. They carry out their tasks with genuine care, compassion, professionalism, and a real willingness to make me feel comfortable, respected, and content. I have been given the opportunity to change care providers, but I would never consider doing so. I feel loved, cared for, respected. All carers have given me a life that is full of compassion, fun, and joy.
Thank you Home Instead. You have transformed my life and given me optimism that I never thought possible.
Client MS April 2024

As a family we have always been very impressed with the care Mum has received form your care givers and I know Mum has always been happy with it too.
She has enjoyed seeing all her carers but is particularly fond of J and they have developed a close bond.

Thanks for your email, and firstly may I thank you all for the amazing support that you have given mum over the years. Without you all she would probably be in a retirement home with a much lower quality of life.
Client’s Daughter SB May 2024

I would like to say a huge thank you to Caroline Hart, who has been amazing and through her, I have been receiving referral work which I am most grateful for. Our dementia care could be as simple as reminiscing about the old times with your loved one. Home Instead Ruislip & Harrow really put a premium on providing a personalised approach to dementia care in the home. Teresa loved to go to choir practice before her diagnosis, however the strain and worry that her family experienced meant that they did not feel comfortable with Teresa leaving the home on her own. Now Virginia accompanies her, not only does teresa enjoy her time at Choir but the health benefits for her condition have been plain for all to see. It’s small things like this that make the world of difference to anyone suffering from a dementia related disease.

When someone is diagnosed with dementia, it is often assumed that keeping their beloved pet is impossible. This is not necessarily the case. Studies have shown that pets have actually been known to increase the health of those with dementia while providing them with a friend to spend their time with. Owning a cute and cuddly companion can even be an essential part of their daily routine. Before jumping to any conclusions, it may be beneficial to review all of your options when it comes to this important decision.
An unexpected diagnosis can be frightening or difficult, and some might discover that they want their pet to remain by their side. After considering the following factors, you may find that there are other alternatives to immediately giving up a best friend.
- How can I help my loved one when they have dementia?Discover More
For people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s, lack of stimulation and boredom can be one of the most frustrating things. It’s important to provide activities that engage and bring pleasure to people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Stimulating activities can help keep them in high spirits and prevent them from developing depression, whilst lessening anxiety and irritability.
Activities should aim to:
- Stir memories and allow them to reminisce about their life
- Foster emotional connections with others – contact with others is vital
- Encourage self-expression

- Are there warning signs that I or my loved one are getting dementia?Discover More
The early stages of dementia are not always obvious, and symptoms and problems might develop slowly. To add to these difficulties, early signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia are frequently easy to dismiss as a normal sign of ageing. However, if you know what to look out for, you can keep an eye on yourself and your loved ones and identify symptoms early. This will allow you to get the medical advice early on and work out care ahead of time.
- This is my loved ones first Christmas after being diagnosed with dementia, is there any advice you can give?Discover More
For a person with dementia, Christmas poses challenges that include disruption to a routine, confusing changes to décor and the layout of a home, and the pressure to be social over extended periods of time. When somebody’s memory or cognitive skills are deteriorating, they will find these tasks especially difficult; it is important that they are catered for in the most sensitive ways possible.
By looking at each potential challenge in turn, we have suggested some ways to manage these difficulties and have a successful Christmas without causing your loved one with dementia distress or exacerbating their confusion.
- What is the difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s disease?Learn More
There are many types of dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is simply one form of dementia.
- Where did the name ‘Alzheimer’s’ come from?
Dr. Alois Alzheimer is credited with discovering Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Alzheimer was a well-known and popular German physician and researcher working in the early 1900s. Physicians and scientists at the time had a fascination with the human brain and were studying it to better understand how it worked.
Dr. Alzheimer met Auguste Deter, the first person who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Auguste told Dr. Alzheimer, “I have forgotten myself”. He brought her to the doctor when she started to have memory loss and delusions. Dr. Alzheimer studied her for several years, noting her decline.
Because of Dr. Alzheimer’s discovery, the disease was named after him.
