Scam & Fraud Protection for Older People

Taking Five to Fight Fraud: Home Instead Ruislip & Harrow Joins #TakeFiveWeek25

At Home Instead Ruislip & Harrow, we believe that safety and independence go hand-in-hand, especially for older members of our community. That’s why we’re proud to be supporting #TakeFiveWeek25, a national initiative encouraging everyone to take a moment – or five – to stop, challenge, and protect themselves from fraud.

Why This Matters

Fraud is becoming more sophisticated and sadly, older adults are often targeted. From phishing emails to scam phone calls and doorstep fraud, criminals are constantly evolving their tactics. Many older people were raised in a time when politeness and trust were second nature – qualities that unfortunately make them more vulnerable to deception.

That’s why raising awareness is not just important – it’s essential.

Community Action: Education and Empowerment

As part of our commitment to keeping our clients informed and protected, we’re thrilled to announce that Barclays Bank will be joining us at our Community Club this Wednesday, held at St Martins Church Hall from 2pm – 4pm. Representatives from Barclays will share valuable insights into the most common scams affecting older people and – crucially – how to avoid them.

We’ll also be hosting one of our ever-popular Chair Aerobics sessions to keep bodies moving and spirits high. It’s a great combination of activity and awareness – helping our community stay both physically and financially healthy.

The #TakeFive Message

The Take Five campaign offers three simple steps everyone can remember:

  1. Stop – Take a moment before parting with any personal or financial information.

  2. Challenge – Could it be fake? It’s okay to say no or hang up.

  3. Protect – Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve been scammed.

By partnering with #TakeFiveWeek25, we’re reinforcing these messages within our community and helping our clients feel empowered, not fearful.

Together We’re Stronger

At Home Instead Ruislip & Harrow, we know that building confidence is just as vital as providing care. That’s why we support initiatives that equip our clients and their families with the knowledge they need to navigate the modern world safely.

We invite everyone to join us on Wednesday – whether for advice, a chat, or a stretch. Because when we take five to stop, challenge and protect, we all help make our community a safer place.
