Home Instead North Oxfordshire hosted a festive wellbeing session in Deddington to help older adults reduce frailty through social connection, exercise and nutrition.

Earlier this December, we hosted a special Wellbeing Get-Together at the Holly Tree Club in Deddington. It was completely free for our clients – because we see this as part of the care we provide. We even arranged transport so everyone could join in, with guests coming from Cropredy, Souldern, Aynho, Woodstock, Deddington and even Blakesley in South Northamptonshire.
The morning was all about fun, friendship and feeling good. Clients introduced themselves, played games, and got creative making Christmas tree decorations. For some, it was a chance to meet new people; for others, simply a lovely reason to get out of the house for a few hours.

We also added a healthy twist! Zoe from our office – who is trained in the Move It or Lose It programme – led some gentle exercises designed to improve strength, flexibility and balance. These activities are perfect for older adults and help slow down the development of frailty in a fun, accessible way.

And of course, we shared a tasty lunch. Working with a chef and nutritionist, we’ve developed recipes that are both delicious and practical for home visits. On the menu? Lentil soup (a great source of protein) with cheese scones, plus a “protein lucky dip” to show how easy it is to make smart food choices. Our nutritionist reminds us that it’s not just about calories – protein, fibre, vitamins and calcium all play a vital role in staying strong and healthy.
It was a wonderful morning, and we’re already planning more sessions like this. Because at Home Instead, we believe wellbeing isn’t just about care – it’s about connection, confidence and enjoying life.
