Home Instead have teamed up with 'Think Jessica' a charity set up by Marilyn Baldwin following her own personal experience with her mother, Jessica, who suffered at the hands of scammers.
Think Jessica is now a registered charity supported by countless agencies, organisations and police forces nationwide and is committed to making people aware of the danger and financial implications caused by postal and telephone scams, educating professionals and protecting the most vulnerable members of our society from illegal practices.
Criminals worldwide are hunting down the most fragile members of our society by "working" from mailing lists which categorise people as being elderly or vulnerable in some way. Everyone is at risk but those listed as living alone, not having the internet or any way of being educated about scams or how to report them are their preferred targets. They contact them by letter and phone call and try to trick them into parting with cash.
Home Instead Newcastle has started their own campaign in the region. Last week 10 of our CAREGivers joined us at our office for our first presentation. The CAREGivers are our 'eyes and ears' in the community with their close relationships with the client they are ideally placed to advise their client on the dangers of unsolicited phone calls, letters and emails.
Last week Crimewatch programme put the spotlight on senior fraud this coincides with the launch of our own Senior Fraud Protection programme. We will be in the local community providing tips and advice to people within the Newcastle area through workshops and the distribution of the Home Instead Senior Fraud Protection Kit as well as Think Jessica scam awareness literature. If you feel you would benefit from a presentation in your area please ring us whether you are a group or individual we are happy to help.
