Maidenhead WoW Guide

Whats On Where Guide Maidenhead

Home Instead Maidenhead have produced a comprehensive guide to What's on Where in the local area specifically for older people. The guide, which is currently being distributed to Home Instead Clients but also to local support groups and community centres, lists coffee mornings, exercise classes, hobby groups, societies and lunch clubs available to those living in and around Maidenhead. It lists times, dates locations plus a contact name and number so people can find out a little more about a group that interests them. We know that much of this information is only accessible via the internet which isn't always easy to find, so thought we could collate all the details and display them on one easy to use, fold out leaflet that can be displayed at centres and picked up to keep at home for reference. We hope this will go some way in tackling isolation and loneliness in older generations by giving people ideas as to where they can go to spend time with like minded people and have a little fun. If you would like a copy of our guide or would like your club/society listed in our next edition, please call 01628 299 097 and ask for a copy - we'll be happy to drop one through your door or email

"Amazing Support & Care"

Just wanted to share this lovely feedback we have had from a clients daughter this month - "I simply cannot praise Home Instead enough. It's not just the caregivers that actually care about the Client, the office Staff do as well and everyone seems to be totally 100% genuine with this. The carers are always punctual, polite, efficient and, without exception seem to enjoy their jobs. My parents have built up a lovely rapport with their team of Carers and living locally, I have also had the pleasure of meeting them. They always treat them with respect, dignity and care almost as if they were their own Family members. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to any friends/Family and I am so grateful to the person who recommended them to me. Thank you Home Instead, it's truly a minefield out there when looking for Carers but your support and care has been amazing."

Sylvia & Client

What it's like to be a CAREGiver

As part of our #YouCanCare initiative, you’ll be hearing from some of our wonderful CAREGivers. Name & age: I’m Sylvia, 58 years old & with Home Instead since 2014. What do you do day-to-day?: I am completely involved in my specialist role as an Alzheimers Certified CAREGiver. I now enjoy getting up in the morning to face my very “unpredictable” day- that’s priceless. In my previous jobs as I was always that person who hated Mondays! What do you love about the job?: I love my role (I don’t consider it a job; I actually get paid for doing what I love!) because it is so rewarding. What would you say to somebody thinking about becoming a CAREGiver?; Do it, get off that “treadmill” of life & realise how rewarding working with older people is. Previous jobs & how do they compare to being a CAREGiver?;No comparison! I have worked in an office environment all my life. CAREGiving is so different & rewarding. To this day I think how lucky I am to have made that decision - the training, help & continual support at Home Instead is wonderful. Skills to be a CAREGiver?; Compassion, empathy, often tolerance & patience. Memorable moment as a CAREGiver; So many to choose from, but one that sticks in my mind is when the “Beast From the East” hit last year. I suggested to my client we go out in the snow to “christen” her new “Christmas Pudding hat” that one of her grandchildren had bought for her for Christmas. I said we could go out, take a picture for her family having fun in the snow - which is exactly what we did. It was pure delight.

CAREGiver celebrates her 70 Birthday!

CAREGiver celebrates her 70th Birthday Liz Race, a CAREGiver at Home Instead Senior Care in Maidenhead, Henley & Wallingford, is a wonderful example of an ‘older’ person who says that caring is “perfect for someone of my age!” This month, Liz celebrates her 70th. birthday, yet she is still working as a CAREGiver, supporting older people stay happy and independent in their own homes by visiting regularly and helping them with their shopping, cooking and other daily routines. She also provides them with the companionship that elderly people so often need. Liz is part of a new generation of workers who are starting new careers when they would traditionally be thinking about putting their feet up. Liz keeps very busy, not only at Home Instead - she also helps out at a local youth group and an elderly social group at her Church. “I thoroughly enjoy being able to go into the clients home and care for them. I love having the opportunity to hear about their lives, interests and family news. It is rewarding and life enhancing to know that in a small way I am able to make a difference by enabling my clients to live in their own homes, safely and well cared for.” Melissa Johnson, owner of Home Instead commented, “We are so lucky to have Liz on our team. She is truly an inspiration and everyone who meets her just loves her! She is 100% client focused and is proof that the older generation are highly effective and vital members of the workforce. Plus many of our clients like to be cared for by someone closer to their own age - they have the life skills to understand the issues faced by those they are supporting. It’s why we already employ many people who are in their 50’s, 60’s and now Liz at 70! Much of the work in the sector is part-time so is ideal for anyone looking to do a few hours to a few days’ work each week.”
