Supporting World Alzheimer’s Month at Home Instead Lewes District & Uckfield

This September, we stand together for World Alzheimer’s Month! A time to raise awareness, show support, and celebrate the lives of those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Three older adults sitting together at a table, smiling and playing a game of bingo. One man is turning a red bingo cage while two women sit nearby, one with a colorful patterned blouse and glasses, and another standing with pens in hand. Drinks and mugs are on the table, and a colorful patchwork quilt hangs on the wall behind them.

At Home Instead Lewes District & Uckfield, we’re proud to play our part every single day. We help individuals living with Alzheimer’s not just cope, but continue to live happy, fulfilling, and dignified lives in the comfort of their own homes.

Living with Alzheimer’s doesn’t mean life stops being joyful. With the right support, it can still be rich in meaning, connection, and love.

What makes our care different?

At the heart of our service is consistency and connection. The same Care Professionals visit at the same chosen times, so genuine relationships can grow. For someone with Alzheimer’s, this sense of familiarity isn’t just comforting, it’s vital.

When a carer truly knows you, care becomes more than support. It becomes a partnership built on trust, respect, and understanding.

Our relationship-centred approach

We see the person, not just the diagnosis. Through a personalised, relationship-centred approach, we provide care that:

  • Keeps loved ones safe and calm at home – a familiar environment can reduce stress and provide reassurance.
  • Builds confidence and encourages engagement – celebrating abilities and small victories, not just managing limitations.
  • Supports healthy eating – with nutritious meals that nurture both body and mind.
  • Fights isolation – encouraging social connections with family, friends, and community.
  • Stimulates the mind – through music, puzzles, storytelling, and meaningful activities.
  • Promotes wellbeing – with gentle exercise, encouragement, and opportunities to feel proud of achievements.
  • Manages challenges with compassion – using understanding and person-centred strategies.
  • Gives families a much-needed break – so they can rest, recharge, and continue their caring journey.

Together, let’s make Alzheimer’s care about more than coping… let’s make it about living well!

Three older women sit around a wooden table in what appears to be a community center or activity room, engaged in playing a board game together. The woman on the left wears glasses and a colorful striped top, while the woman in the middle has short blonde hair and wears a patterned sleeveless top. A third woman with blonde hair sits on the right in a light blue top. The table has coffee cups, game boxes, and what looks like a colorful board game spread out. The room has bright green and white walls, colorful bunting hanging from the ceiling, bulletin boards, and shelving with various items, creating a cheerful, social atmosphere typical of a senior center or community gathering space.
