A quick look over what we are doing this week and what else is on in your community

Busy week for us at Home Instead Leigh with plenty going on in the local area, we are holding our very first VR session at Wigan and Leigh Carers centre so come down and try out something different.

We also have limited space left at our Gala Dinner raising funds for Wigan and Leigh Hospice, details on Facebook.

We are also planning our next training day for our prospective Care Professionals so get in touch with our office staff to join in and help change the face of ageing.

  • Tuesday – MemorabLEIGH-Railway Road Leigh Tuesday 1PM-3Pm

MemorabLEIGH local history/ reminiscence group which is led by professional writer and local history specialist Julie Mckiernan. During the workshops they will share local history information about Leigh and surrounding area in the form of artefacts, videos, photographs, audio recordings, newspaper articles, family trees, personal memories.

You don’t need to be an expert in local history or even know much about the local area just have a lively interest and curiosity.

Wednesday- THE Hub CIC

The Hub CIC is Located in Little Rainbows 2 Nursery on East Bond Street in Leigh, they are a home like environment which engaging and stimulating day to day activities that are designed to promote independence for over 50’s.

Thursday Morning- Fill My Cup- Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre

VR Session At Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre

Virtual Reality at Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre Open to All Ages.

 Session it will be great opportunity for people to try VR for the first time if people haven’t tried it before.

Virtual Experience can help improve cognitive health in older adults. Studies have suggested that VR can help strengthen neural connectors that help support our sensory, motor and cognitive skills allow us to improve cognition.

Because of Virtual Reality older adults can take virtual trips and visit new places or experience new activities together.

Thursday- Wigan Athletic Extra Time Hub at Leigh Miners

The Extra Time Hub run by Wigan Athletic Community Trust help bring people in their retirement years together to socialise and do things they enjoy and also try new activities also.

The Extra Hubs are Communities of likeminded people, they are weekly gatherings every Thursday 1pm until 3pm. They are a great way of maintaining friendships and being socially active as these important parts of healthy, happy ageing.

There are always a variety of activities on offer they can vary from quizzes, arts and crafts and music to seated volleyball, table tennis, cricket or just have a chat and a cup of tea. Every week there can be something else to try.

Friday- Veterans Breakfast- Wigan Armed Forces Community HQ    

Armed Forces Community HQ is a not for profit organisation which was established in 2018 to provide a safe space for the Armed Forces Community to belong, become socially included and access better life chances. They UNITE the community, INSPIRE access to positive activities that impact health and wellbeing and support the community to ACHIEVE better life chances.

Filly My Cup at Café Camaraderie

For those Living with Dementia and their families/ friends/ carers. Every two weeks. Come along and chat, enjoy good food and take part in activities.
