What a Typical Day Looks Like With a Home Carer

At Home Instead, we believe care should empower—not restrict—our clients. Each day is built around supporting independence, dignity, and the routines that matter most. Here’s what a typical day looks like for one of our clients, Margaret.

Our care professional, Sarah, arrives each morning with a warm greeting. Margaret often says, “I always feel calmer the moment she walks in.” Together, they begin with gentle personal care and medication support. We never rush this time; instead, we focus on helping Margaret stay involved in her own morning routine.

Breakfast is something they enjoy preparing together. Margaret likes to stay hands-on, and with Sarah’s encouragement, she still takes the lead. “I love that she lets me do what I can—it makes me feel more like myself,” she recently shared.

Whenever the weather allows, Sarah supports Margaret to take a short walk. These outings have boosted her confidence and mobility. Inside the home, Sarah helps with light housekeeping while encouraging Margaret to stay engaged with the activities she enjoys—from crosswords to phone calls with family.

Throughout the day, companionship plays a big part. Margaret often tells us, “She doesn’t just help me—she listens to me.”

Although Margaret has several care professionals who support her throughout the week, Sarah is her main care pro and someone she has developed a particularly strong bond with.

At Home Instead our goal is simple: to help people remain independent, confident, and comfortable in the place they call home.
